Strategy leadership and operations

  • Develop and continually improve and iterate World Vision Uganda’s National FMNR Scaling Strategy (2023-2033) to respond to new opportunities and challenges and incorporate new ideas and innovations.
  • Lead the development of annual work plans to implement World Vision Uganda’s National FMNR Scaling Strategy.
  • Work cross-functionally with the directors/heads and members of diverse teams and departments across World Vision Uganda to coordinate the implementation of annual work plans that progress strategy realization at the national-level. This could include the establishment of internal coordination structures (i.e., committees, working groups etc.) as deemed appropriate.
  • Co-lead the development of six-monthly progress reports against annual work plans (together with the National FMNR Evidence specialist and resilience and livelihood technical Lead).
  • Co-lead the development of an annual FMNR scaling report card against the National FMNR Scaling Strategy (together with the National FMNR Evidence specialist and Resilience and Livelihood technical Lead).

  • WVU’s National FMNR Scaling Strategy is successfully operationalised to achieve the country’s target

Partnering, external engagement and advocacy

  • Map and identify scaling partners and prioritise for engagement.
  • Mobilise and engage an alliance/network of national partners to support the scale-up of FMNR in Uganda. Where relevant structures have been established via projects, this position will co-lead partner engagement activities with project staff.
  • Establish strong links between partner scaling efforts at the national level with those occurring at the global level.
  • Externally represent World Vision Uganda at key national, regional and/or global events relating to FMNR scaling.
  • Meet with key national and global public and private partners as required.
  • Host key donors supporting FMNR scaling efforts as required.

  • Strategic partners mapped and clear working relationships developed with them to support promotion of FMMR scaling.

  • WVU is viewed as a strong influencer at the local, national, regional and global stage.
  • Major donors convinced about supporting the FMNR scaling strategy as a result of the evidence of programming provided to them.

Programme development and grant acquisition

  • Work collaboratively with World Vision Uganda’s Grant Acquisition and Management (GAM) team and the resilience and livelihood team to ensure that all emerging funding opportunities are leveraged (where relevant) to support the implementation of the National FMNR Scaling Strategy.
  • Work collaboratively with key stakeholders from World Vision Australia to design investment ready projects for diverse donors that support the implementation of the National FMNR Scaling Strategy.

  • New opportunities identified, pursued and leading to new funding streams in line with FMMR scaling strategy.

  • FMNR profiled and promoted as a key regreening approach with in Uganda stakeholder groups, including government and UN agencies

World Vision partnership engagement

  • Contribute and align with World Vision’s global FMNR scaling frameworks and processes, including regular meetings with World Vision Australia and other National FMNR Scaling Teams across the region.

Relationship with key stakeholders within WVU, WVA and other NOs maintained, that focus on promoting FMNR to scale in Uganda and the region.

KNOWLEDGE/QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE ROLE

Required Professional Experience

  • Minimum of ten years’ experience in field-based programme management, leadership and coordination roles working in natural resources, environment and/or food security with an international NGOs or local government.

  • Broad knowledge and understanding of climate change and issues relating to sustainable natural resource management in Uganda . An experience in implementing Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration and agroforestry programs is strongly desired.

  • Proven experience engaging and influencing key stakeholders including government, donors, and implementing partners
  • Experience in evidence-based programme design and grant acquisition, implementation, monitoring and evaluation and reporting
  • At least ten years’ experience working with vulnerable communities and familiarity with development programming and implementation.

  • Experience with World Vision’s Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration technical approach and other relevant project models (i.e., savings for transformation, building secure livelihoods, enabling rural innovations, local value chain development and ultra-poor graduation) is desirable

  • Master’s degree in Natural Resources, Environmental Sciences, Forestry, Agro-Forestry, Agriculture or other relevant field is a requirement. (A bachelor degree in the relevant academic areas coupled with 10 years of work experience in the areas of focus can be considered).

Preferred Knowledge

and Qualifications

  • Technical skills: academic and/or direct programming experience and expertise in at least three of the following thematic areas is desirable: natural resources, environmental management, climate change, mitigation and adaptation, financial inclusion/micro-finance, value chain development, small enterprise development, emergency livelihoods programming.
  • Acquaintance with donor relations and evidence-based programming
  • Highly developed relationship management/networking and coordination skills is essential.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proven conceptual and analytical skills.
  • Proven facilitation skills and track record demonstrating high integrity, innovativeness, creativity, reliability and dependable
  • Proactive personality, self-driven and strongly motivated
  • Computer literate in Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Work Environment

Requirement

Work environment: Based at the National office, with frequent travels internally to project sites in Uganda, regional level (East Africa) and globally. The position requires ability and willingness to travel to the field up to 30% of the time
