You have:
- Advanced university degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, Agronomy and Breeding Science, Plant Sciences.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in agronomy, crop sciences, plant genetics and breeding, oilseed crops.
- Excellent knowledge of and experience working with the Government of Iran (GoI) institutions.
- National of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
- Proven communications skills and fluent in English and Persian.
Organizational Setting
The main aim of the FAO country offices, which are headed by an FAO Representative, is to assist governments to develop policies, programs, and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors, and to use their environmental and natural resources sustainably. The post is located in the FAO Representation in the Islamic Republic of Iran (Tehran) and the Ministry of Agriculture Jahad (MAJ). All FAO-Iran employees shall follow the UN workweek (from Sunday to Thursday) and holiday schedule.
Reporting Lines
The incumbent will perform his/her tasks and duties under the overall guidance of the FAO Representative to the I.R. Iran, direct supervision of the Assistant FAOR (Programme), in close coordination with the Project Officer, technical guidance of the Lead Technical Officer, in close contact with the other FAO colleagues and in collaboration with the Oilseed program of the Ministry of Agriculture Jahad (MAJ).
Technical Focus
The National Expert on Soybean Breeding provides technical expertise and support to implementation, operation, and capacity development of the strategies and concerns of the project associated with soybean breeding in close collaboration with the Project Officer and the national stakeholders.
Task and Responsibilities
The incumbent will perform the following tasks and duties:
- In close collaboration with the FAO team, liaise with relevant authorities from the Ministry of Agriculture Jahad (MAJ) to better understand their requirement and identify elite oilseed crop Germplasm to be imported to the I.R. Iran;
- In collaboration with the FAO team, support the experts from Ministry of Agriculture Jahad (MAJ) to successfully perform the multiplication process of the imported seeds under appropriate condition;
- In collaboration with the FAO team, support the experts from Ministry of Agriculture Jahad (MAJ) to successfully develop the breeding strategy and scheme for improving the existing varieties using imported germplasm;
- In close collaboration with the FAO team and Ministry of Agriculture Jahad (MAJ), and through close consultation with the National Project Coordinator (NPC) and National Project Director (NPD), support the procurement of the high-quality inoculants and the test against cultivars and appraise tolerance against adverse climate conditions;
- In close collaboration with the FAO team, prepare baseline assessment report on soybean breeding program of the Ministry of Agriculture Jahad (MAJ) and highlight the capacities and gaps;
- In collaboration with the FAO team, and based on the capacity needs assessment, coordinate the development of training programs and training materials;
- In close collaboration with government, provincial counterparts, and international consultant, facilitate the trainings, reporting, and evaluation of effectiveness including pre and post-training surveys; and
- Perform other tasks assigned by the FAO Representative to the I.R. Iran.

Minimum Requirements
- Advanced university degree in, Agriculture, Horticulture, Agronomy and Breeding Science, Plant Sciences;
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in agronomy, crop sciences, plant genetics and breeding, oilseed crops;
- Excellent knowledge of and experience working with the Government of Iran (GoI) institutions. Experience with the agriculture sector is an asset;
- National of the Islamic Republic of Iran; and
- Proven communications skills and fluent in English and Persian.

- Good command of computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet).
- Knowledge of crops breeding;
