Organizational Setting:

FAO Representative in Madagascar, to Comoros, Mauritius and Seychelles

As part of the post-Covid 19 recovery FAO is supporting the government of the Seychelles in building the resilience of small-scale farm producers through the project “Assistance on resilience building and sustaining livelihoods of small farmers in the post-COVID 19 era in the Seychelles”. FAO would like to hire services of a National Consultant to implement specific project tasks.

Reporting Lines:

The national consultant will work under the general supervision of the FAOR in Madagascar, to Comoros, Mauritius and Seychelles, the direct supervision of the Deputy FAO Representative, the technical guidance of the project Lead Technical Officer (LTO), under supervision of the national coordinator and in close collaboration with the national project assistant.

Tasks and responsibilities

The consultant will undertake the following activities to provide technical and functional support to the project “Assistance on resilience building and sustaining livelihoods of small farmers in the post-COVID 19 era in the Seychelles – TCP//SEY/3801”.

  • Provide technical support to the project;
  • Analyze in a participatory manner support actions for small producers (involvement of women's groups in the diagnosis and planning of activities). Input needs will be identified through site visits and consultation of beneficiaries.
  • Identify the training needs on the technical and organizational themes of the groups in a participatory manner.
  • Facilitate access to agricultural inputs and organize an input supply and distribution system
  • Identification of households for seed distribution and multiplication by recruiting a consultant (backyard farming)
  • Support the NPC on the transportation and distribution of the inputs to the beneficiaries.
  • Ensure the training and field support of the households
  • Acquisition of agricultural inputs: provide technical specification of each items
  • Build school gardens, establish a working method to consolidate nutrition education for children and parents of students and promote the consumption of fruits and vegetables for health.
  • Organize training sessions on the prevention and emergency preparedness for local committees
  • Develop an action plan integrating food security and propose concrete actions to be carried out by the local committees

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Agricultural Economics, Agriculture or related field.
  • 10 years’ experience in Agriculture;
  • Experience working on agriculture development, school gardens, formulation of action plan;
  • Nationality of Seychelles or resident in the country with a regular work permit.
