Facilitate environmental and social safeguards for livestock project implementation.
You have:
- Advanced Degree in Environmental Science/Animal Science/Agriculture/Agricultural Economics or any other relevant subject.
- A minimum 10 years progressive work experience in environmental assessment and safeguard related activities.
- Nationality of Bangladesh.
- Knowledge of GoB policies, acts, rules and regulations relevant to livestock/fisheries/environment/agriculture and social aspects.
- Knowledge on environmental and social screening and safeguard measures related to Livestock production.
- Previous experience in developing and/or implementing environmental and social safeguard strategies.
- Demonstrated profound understanding of climate smart agriculture (CSA) production.
- Demonstrated skills and knowledge on carbon footprint and water footprint, especially in livestock production.
- Ability to solve problems, use initiative, and manage work under limited supervision.
- Applicant have a working knowledge of English (written and verbal) and local dialect is preferred.
Organizational Setting
The FAO Representation in Bangladesh is responsible for leading FAO's response to regional priorities for food security, agriculture and rural development through the identification, planning, and implementation of FAO's priority activities in the country. It ensures a multidisciplinary approach to programmes, identifies priority areas of action for the Organization in Bangladesh and, in collaboration with Regional Office Asia and Pacific and the departments and divisions at Headquarters, develops, promotes and oversees FAO's strategic response to the country priorities. The representation also supports the regional office in the incorporation of regional priorities into the Organization's Programme of Work and Budget and implements approved programmes and projects in the country, monitors the level of programme implementation and draws attention to problems and deficiencies. The office also develops and maintains relations with Government of Bangladesh, UN agencies, the resource partners and other development institution at the country level.
Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in Bangladesh has been providing Technical Assistance (TA) to the Government of Bangladesh through several projects have components of livestock production. FAO Bangladesh has been planning to provide TA to the implementation of Livestock and Dairy Development Project (TA-LDDP) of the Department of Livestock Services (DLS), Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock. FAO Bangladesh will recruit a National Environment and Social Safeguard Specialist for the upcoming UTF project with LDDP.
Reporting Lines
The National Environment and Social Safeguard Specialist is an SC 9 position will work under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Bangladesh and direct supervision of the Project Team Leader . The National Environment and Social Safeguard Specialist keeping close liaison with the Project Director and the Chief Technical Coordinator (CTC) of LDDP and other relevant project staff, the representative of partner organization of public, private or development organization or the field staff work for the implementation of project activities, and following technical supervision of the LTO and guidance of the AGAG will undertake the following:
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Carry out stakeholder consultations and organizing environmental and social safeguards training workshops and seminars for LDDP staff.
- Research and analyze technical, social, economic, environmental, institutional, and technology related information, data and statistics and/or related policy issues to support the delivery of LDDP, products and services assigned to FAO;
- Produce a variety of technical information, data, statistics and reports as well as input for technical documents for LDDP;
- Provide technical analysis of conducted assessments, surveys and activities; collaborate in the development of improved/updated tools, systems, processes, and databases for smooth implementation of LDDP;
- Assist preparation of monthly/quarterly/half yearly progress reports;
- Any other responsibility assigned by the team leader.

Technical/Functional Skills

- Work experience with environment, livelihood, Alternative Income Generating Activities (AIGA);
- Demonstrated profound understanding of climate smart agriculture (CSA) production and have knowledge on the local and global policy document;
- Demonstrated skills and knowledge on carbon foot print and water foot print, especially in livestock production and computation of GHG emission and working experience with global organizations like, FAO
- Have demonstrated vision of livestock production needs considering the Business as usual (BAU) growth scenarios and that of the BDP 2100 of the country and ability to formulation of policies and action plans
- Have practical experience in the development and drafting of policy document, extension and training manuals
- Competent user of computer and ICT tools having skilled writing, typing and communication ability
- Proven skills in programme monitoring and coordination;

- Ability to solve problems, use initiative, and manage work under limited supervision;
- Applicant have a working knowledge of English (written and verbal) and local dialect is preferred.
S/He will report to AFAOR (Programme) and will report the progress of work and on any other tasks assigned to him/her.
