Result of Service - Support and co-facilitate consultations at the national and local levels - Support drafting reports and meeting minutes - Support implementation of disaster risk reduction and early warning systems related activities

Work Location Fiji

Expected duration 60 working days over the 6 months (April - September 2022)

Duties and Responsibilities The consultant will support UNDRR Sub-Regional Office in the Pacific to promote and implement disaster risk reduction and early warning systems initiatives as well as Mid-Term Review of the Sendai Framework.

Under the supervision of the Head of Sub-Regional Office and in close liaison with the Programme Management Officer, the consultant will support the development and roll-out of structured consultations and reviews on Sendai Framework, disaster risk reduction and early warning systems in the Pacific. Tasks to be performed under this consultancy include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Mid-Term Review of the Sendai Framework (MTR SF)

•Support the Sub-Regional Office and Lead Consultant to identify, engage and prepare the list of organizations and persons for national and local level consultations and review in the Pacific. •Support and co-facilitate regional, national, and local consultations or review exercises with key stakeholders. Where relevant, support consultation or review process led by government or other stakeholders. •Provide administrative, research, communications, and note-taking support

2. Climate Risk and Early Warning Systems

•Support the Sub-Regional Office and the Lead Consultant to identify and engage with national and local organizations working on early warning systems in the Pacific •Support and co-facilitate local consultations on early warning early action in Fiji •Provide communication and note-taking support

3. Disaster Risk Reduction

•Support Sub-Regional Office to liaise with regional, national and local actors working in the disaster risk reduction field •Support Fiji NDMO and other relevant national/ local partners on DRR related policies and initiatives •Provide communication and administrative support to the ongoing activities

Qualifications/special skills Skills: •Good interpersonal and communication skills. •Personal commitment, effectiveness, and commitment to results. •Ability to write clear and concise texts in English. •Ability to manage multiple tasks. Academic Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Disaster Risk Management, Social Sciences, Economics, Public Administration, or related field is required. Experience: •Minimum five (5) years of experience in the areas of disaster risk management, climate change adaptation and resilience, public administration, and/or organizing training and capacity building workshops/courses is required. •Work experience with relevant national and sub-national stakeholders in the Pacific region is required. •Demonstrated experience in drafting strategic planning documents, reports and conducting consultations with stakeholders is required. Language: Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of local language is desired.
