How can you make a difference?

Globally, UNICEF invests in digital communication to promote children’s rights and the results of organization’s work for families and children. Since 1994, UNICEF’s Office in the Kyrgyz Republic has been working together with civil society organizations to assist the Government to fulfil its obligations under the Convention on the Rights of the Child and to empower children to fully claim and enjoy their rights.

The UNICEF communication goal in Kyrgyzstan is to contribute to the realization of all the rights of all children living in the country, especially the most disadvantaged. UNICEF in Kyrgyzstan has a website and is present in the following social media platforms – Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube.

Scope of work and key tasks

The work will be delivered in accordance with the monthly social media plans developed by the Communication Officer.

Task 1: Сreate draft content for social media (general messaging, quotes, photos, snapshots from the published stories etc.) and visualize via free tools such as Canva and apps. Adapt multimedia assets from DOC for local audiences. Maintain a social media calendar of content themes and all upcoming coverage schedules according to the calendar. Deliverables: Monthly social media plans implementation: stories, videos, images, infographics, photos.

Task 2: Publish cleared content to social media accounts (publishing on Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter) on a daily basis. Deliverables: Daily web and social media content. Timeframe: Daily.

Task 3: Support two-way communication with an audience via answering on direct messages and comments. Deliverables: Answered requests and comments. Timeframe: Daily. Task 4: Logistics support in events. Deliverables: Supported activities. Timeframe: When required.

Task 5: Goal to be arranged with the intern once she/he is in the office. Deliverable: To be decided with the intern. Timeframe: Throughout the internship.

Reporting and supervision

The intern will report to the Communication Officer and work closely with other members of the communication team.

Duty station and official travel involved

Online with regular visits to UNICEF Office in Bishkek

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will meet the following eligibility requirements:

• Be enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate, or Ph.D. degree programme in communication, marketing, media, law, literature, public relations, development studies, international development, or any other relevant university degree or have graduated within the past two years (proof of enrollment and university transcript will be also considered). Applicants must be at least 18 years old.

• Additional consideration will be given for any past experience in using social media and other digital platforms (portfolio if available, links to pages etc)

• Fluency in English, Russian and Kyrgyz is required, including good writing skills (please, submit a sample of writing)

• Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure

• Have no immediate relatives (e.g. father, mother, brother, sister) working in any UNICEF office; and

• Have no other relatives in the line of authority that the intern will report to.
