You have:
- Advanced degree in Dairy Science/Animal Science/Animal Nutrition or related field.
- At least 15 years of work experience in livestock production including 5 years of practical experience in research and first-hand extension, farmers'/agribusiness development.
- Demonstrated profound understanding in dairy production and knowledge in diversified disciplines of dairy production and dairy technology.
- Proven experience in the preparation of technical documents on dairy production considering national and global perspectives.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of livestock value chains in Bangladesh.
- Ability to prepare financial statements using business tools such as COMFAR.
- Excellent communication skills including strong writing skills.
- Proven skills in programme monitoring and coordination.
- Have leadership capacity and sharing opinions with peers.
- Nationality of Bangladesh.
Organizational Setting
The FAO Representation in Bangladesh is responsible for leading FAO's response to regional priorities for food security, agriculture and rural development through the identification, planning, and implementation of FAO's priority activities in the country. It ensures a multidisciplinary approach to programmes, identifies priority areas of action for the Organization in Bangladesh and, in collaboration with Regional Office Asia and Pacific and the departments and divisions at Headquarters, develops, promotes and oversees FAO's strategic response to the country priorities. The representation also supports the regional office in the incorporation of regional priorities into the Organization's Programme of Work and Budget and implements approved programmes and projects in the country, monitors the level of programme implementation and draws attention to problems and deficiencies. The office also develops and maintains relations with Government of Bangladesh, UN agencies, the resource partners and other development institution at the country level.
Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in Bangladesh has been providing Technical Assistance (TA) to the Government of Bangladesh through several projects have components of livestock production. FAO Bangladesh has been planning to provide TA to the implementation of Livestock and Dairy Development Project (TA-LDDP) of the Department of Livestock Services (DLS), Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock. FAO Bangladesh will recruit a National Dairy Specialist for the upcoming UTF project with LDDP.
Reporting Lines
The National Dairy Specialist is an SC 9 position and will work under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Bangladesh, and direct supervision of the Project Team Leader.. The National Dairy Specialist keeping close liaison with the Project Director and the Chief Technical Coordinator (CTC) of LDDP and other relevant project staff, the representative of partner organization of public, private or development organization or the field staff work for the implementation of project activities, and following technical supervision of the LTO and guidance of the AGAG will undertake the following:
Tasks and Responsibilities
- In collaboration with PMU-LDDP and dairy production companies, identify and characterize the high potential zones for
- Support planning and development of Village Milk Collection Centers, community dairy development and dairy extension services;
- Support the mapping of existing farmers’ groups (FG) and mobilization of FGs/POs
- Support project baseline survey, development of curricula for Farmers` Field School (FFS) and the Manuals for FFS and livestock extension
- Review national and global policy document for dairy development blending climate impact mitigation and adaptation plans in relation to dairy production and develop policy and action plans
- Support development of policy, manuals, guidelines and training materials for dairy production and the management of environment of dairy farming and improvement of health and hygiene and reduction of associated risk factor of food safety
- Support the conducting of FGDS, field workshop & training and field survey and other related works for the timely completion of LDDP activities
- Regularly update the progress of different activities and discuss relevant issues to ensure the smooth implementation of the project
- Assist preparation of monthly/quarterly/half yearly progress reports;
- Any other responsibility assigned by the team leader .

Minimum Requirements
- Advanced degree in Dairy Science/Animal Science/Animal Nutrition or related field
- At least 15 years of work experience in livestock production including 5 years
practical experience in research and first-hand extension, farmers/agribusiness development having preferably the experience in developing countries in the design and management of agribusinesses - Demonstrated profound understanding in dairy production, public and private sector extension services, have knowledge in diversified disciplines of dairy production and dairy technology, product diversification, feeding and nutrition, housing and management, value chains, and climate resilience, waste management
- Proven experience in the preparation of technical documents on dairy production considering national and global perspectives
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of livestock value chains in the socioeconomy and agro-ecology of Bangladesh and of the regions
- Proven experience in evidence based livestock policy and standard guideline development
- Have leadership capacity and sharing opinions with peers
- Excellent communication skills including strong writing skills, proven ability to convey complex ideas through clear communication, and concise reports, and effective oral presentations
- Nationality of Bangladesh.

Technical/Functional Skills
- Proven record of working similar type of project in similar environment.
- Proven experience in preparation of technical documents on livestock in the national/international scenario.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of dairy/livestock related sectors in Bangladesh or in the countries of the region
- Knowledge of business plan preparation and ability to prepare financial statements using business tool such as COMFAR
- Competent user of computer and ICT tools having skilled writing, typing and communication ability
- Proven skills in programme monitoring and coordination;
- Demonstrated innovative thinking and practical execution;
- Ability to solve problems, use initiative, and manage work under limited supervision;
- Applicant have a working knowledge of English (written and verbal) and local dialect is preferred.
