Duty Station: Jakarta

Type of Contract: Individual Contractor - Special Service Agreement

Duration: 11 January 2021 – 31 March 2021 (2,5 months)

BACKGROUND:

Indonesia has the fourth-highest rate of acute malnutrition in the world; 10 per cent of children under 5 years are acutely malnourished, of which 3.5 per cent (2 million) are severely malnourished. The mortality rate among children with SAM is 11.6 times higher than among well-nourished children, and those who survive SAM may continue to experience developmental problems throughout their lives. Consequently, SAM is considered the most dangerous form of child malnutrition, and a medical emergency requiring urgent treatment.

UNICEF has been supporting the Government to scale up the Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (IMAM) programme since 2019 by supporting the development of the national IMAM guideline and the strategy to scale up the program in the 260 stunting prioritized districts in 2020. UNICEF supports include development of training materials, job aids, pocketbooks and IEC materials, capacity building to 34 provinces, advocacy to sub-national government and support national government on RUTF (Ready to Use Therapeutic Food) import and local production. UNICEF intensive technical support to the MoH and sub-national government will be continued with more provinces and districts implement IMAM under the national stunting reduction strategy declared by the national government.

The recent analysis has shown that the number of wasted children will increase by 15% globally due to Covid-19 pandemic. This has certainly urged the need to intensify the implementation of IMAM programs in the Covid-19 most affected areas. During the pandemic, several efforts have been made by UNICEF and the MoH to ensure that IMAM program is implemented at scale, which include introducing mass screening in several provinces, providing RUTF and MUAC tapes, developing online training materials on IMAM, providing online orientation and on the job training to health workers and introducing an online counseling tool to help parents to get information on IMAM.

Due to the need to support the government on the Covid-19 related IMAM activities, UNICEF is seeking a national contractor who has an experience in implementing IMAM program in Indonesia and has worked together with the MoH and other stakeholders for implementing and coordinating the Covid-19 related IMAM activities.
