How can you make a difference?

Key Responsibilities:

Under the guidance of the supervisor, the responsibilities are divided into three separate categories as outlined below:

Before the round:

  • Identify vaccine accountability monitors.
  • Train vaccine accountability monitors in mOPV2 and check the skills acquired through a test.
  • Identify the health facilities to visit.

  • Distribute the vaccine accountability monitors in the Health Facilities.

  • Ensure that vaccine accountability monitors can visit the sites and move from one to the other as needed

During the round:

  • Inspect Vaccine Accountability Monitors in the field to verify the quality of their work

  • Supervise the progress of independent monitoring in the field

  • Collect and analyze the reports of vaccine accountability monitors

After the round:

  • Support the verification of the absence of mOPV2 and tOPV in health facilities.

  • Advise health personnel on corrective measures to be taken if tOPVs or mOPV2 are found after the end of the round.

  • Collect the forms from vaccine accountability monitors, review the quality and reliability of the data collection procedure, and make any necessary corrections.
  • Ensure that all vials are sent to the district level.
  • Complete the vaccine management summary sheet for sub-prefecture and each district.
  • Produce a report and forward it to the vaccine management consultant.

MANAGEMENT OF ASSIGNMENT:

The consultant will report to the UNICEF Zonal EPI officer who is the supervisor of this assignment and will work closely with the Cold Chain Specialist. A technical management team comprising of the UNICEF Somalia Country Office staff focal for cold chain and logistics (CCL) and UNICEF Zonal health officer will oversee and provide regular guidance. The UNICEF CO will provide required administrative and logistical support, avail required documents and other relevant support. The Consultant is required to have a personal laptop and phone.

Duty Station:

The work will be undertaken in Somalia with field travels in different locations.

Training:

  • A Bachelor’s degree from a University in the field of Health or Logistics; In lieu of a Bachelor's degree, a relevant Diploma plus three or more years of professional relevant experience may also be considered.
  • A minimum of 1 year of progressively responsible and relevant professional work experience in the planning and management of cold chain and vaccine, with practical experience in working in the Somalia context.
  • Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency is considered an asset.
  • Fluency in Somali and English is required.

Behaviour:

    • Follow the customs of the community where the visit is made;
    • Respect the basic rules of courtesy: greet, give the reasons for the visit;
    • Ability to work in a team and under pressure;
    • Ability to speak the local language and be able to work within the local culture.
    • Be able to rephrase questions to make them easier to understand without losing meaning.

Experience:

    • Be fairly familiar with logistics or the health system.
    • Experience in managing the logistics of vaccination campaigns.
