This assignment reflects the need in 2024 for the UNICEF Regional Office to engage young people on the U-Report South Asia platform to understand their perceptions, attitudes, behaviors, and levels of access to information and services across key UNICEF thematic areas and to support youth engagement for their development and those of their families and communities. The U-Report Data Analyst consultant will support the technical implementation of the digital engagement polls, chatbots, and campaigns across different thematic areas in the U-Report system.

How can you make a difference?

During this contract period, the consultant will support the Rapidpro technical activities for the 2024 U-Report South Asia initiatives through the collection of data, engagement, and evidence-based information-sharing activities with young people and communities around UNICEF ROSA’s programme and advocacy priorities. The consultancy will involve working closely with UNICEF ROSA SBC, Health, Child Protection, Adolescent Participation, Skills and Employability and Gender sectors, and UNICEF country offices in the South Asia Region.

Key Assignments/Tasks:

a) Develop polls/chatbots flows into the U-Report/RapidPro system.

b) Support the translation of each online engagement activity into the relevant regional languages done by UNVs and UNICEF country offices.

c) Design creatives and manage social media campaigns to bring young people on the UReport/Rapidpro platform.

d) Produce analytical reports of online polls and campaigns and social media campaigns.

e) Work closely with the ICT4D team to monitor the system to ensure the functionality of the platform and address issues interfering with its optimal performance.

f) Support engagement activities with the U-Report Adolescent Reference Group.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Education:

University degree in Information Technology, Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, Communication, Journalism, Marketing, International Development, or a related field as well as a track record of practical data analysis.

Work Experience:

Minimum 3 years of work experience in a position that required practical data analysis and creation of management reports, preferably but not limited to development sectors. Experience with adolescent and youth issues is a plus.

Competencies:

  • Ability to use or learn a new technology platform (RapidPro); previous experience with RapidPro is a requirement.
  • Demonstrated understanding of social media engagement techniques and campaign planning is required.
  • Highly comfortable using Microsoft Excel for analysis; familiarity with Tableau, R or Python, or similar tools is a plus.

Language Proficiency:

Fluency in written and verbal English and Nepali is required. Knowledge of Hindi and other South Asia languages.

Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.

The selected candidate is solely responsible for ensuring that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
