Background
UN Women Ethiopia Country Office (CO) is planning to hold its office retreat from March 14 – 19,2022 in Bishoftu to review the implementation of the 2021 AWP and strengthening the team spirit and leadership skills. The convening of team retreat is viewed as essential to the organization’s growth and advancement. Currently, UN Women Ethiopia team grew from staff members 3 to 63. The shift in UN Women Ethiopia structure and several new appointments to the team provide a strategic opportunity to comprehensively build the team, their leadership skills, and to develop their capacity to deliver on UN Women mandate. The intensity and the scope of the work undertaken by UN Women Ethiopia team, requires a high-functioning and resilient team, clear on the mandate, effective and professional in communicating, focusing on achieving the one country office vision, and delivering on the programme and projects targeted results. Bringing the team together to review the 2021 AWP, discussing professional development needs, build capacity with regards to enhancing interpersonal collaboration; respecting different working practices; bringing the best out of each other as a team, and leading on their respective TORs and roles will create an optimal working environment, giving the UN Women team the best chance of successfully delivering their mandate.
The CO retreat also emanates from the need to assess the challenges and opportunities determining or hampering efficiency, professionalism and effectiveness in addressing gender equality and women’s empowerment issues within the CO and the country alike.
In acknowledging the challenges, the CO recognizes the need of 1) team building; 2) leadership skills and peer learning to strengthen capacity within the CO in order to advance the gender equality agenda in the country. As the main aim of the retreat is to increase team cohesiveness and integration to pre-empt and prepare staff to become more efficient and respond positively to challenges. Also, the exercise is crucial for the CO in order to consolidate its position and leadership on GEWE in Ethiopia.
Objectives
- To enhance team building and promote team work culture and practice in the midst of natural and human induced disaster /emergency.
- To identify the development and capacity building needs of staff for more effective delivery of the UN Women programme within a collegial and participatory enabling environment
- To enhance the understanding of gender issues and mainstreaming of gender in the respect work of UN Women ECO
- To introduce staff in UN Women Ethiopia Country Office to the concept of humanitarian Development and peace nexus and building resilience among the staff
Duties and Responsibilities
The detailed duties and responsibilities include;
- conduct pre retreat intake coaching and assessment sessions with staff members to identify critical intervention areas, team building and personal development needs
- plan and facilitate 3 days team retreat sessions for UN Women Ethiopia considering the objectives above and including programmatic and operational aspects, team building and healthy living sessions
- Assess the team’s understanding of gender issues and mainstreaming of gender in the respect work of UN Women Ethiopia and lead the design and develop the agenda and delivery methodology of the teambuilding retreat, in consultation with staff members;
- Facilitate the retreat, including developing activities and exercises aimed at strengthening and encouraging efficient and effective communication, team building, knowledge and information sharing, selfcare, stress and burnout management
- Build a more effective team spirit, engender creativity and synergy around problems or future directions, create a degree of shared ownership in key planning issues
- Provide a consultancy summary, comprising a report on the retreat and pre and post-retreat engagement, including recommendations for continued professional development support including write up of the results of the assessment of working dynamics, strengths and weaknesses in communication and collaboration within the team, stress management issues and recommend how to build on strengths, address weaknesses and mechanisms of improving selfcare within the team

Education:

Experience:

- Minimum 7 years’ experience in facilitation, training, coaching and mentoring within the relevant topic areas;
- Excellent analytical and writing skills;
- Experience as lead facilitator in similar assignments;
- high standard reporting writing skill
Language:
Fluency in the English language required,
