A nationwide communication and advocacy campaign entitled *Literacy For a Brighter Future* was developed to raise awareness at community levels on the importance of access to youth and adult literacy, especially for women and girls. UNESCO is hiring a professional and expert Photographer/Videographer till the end of December 2023 to develop a documentary, capture photos and provide interviews and other videos from the field. **Objective** The objective of this consultancy is to help UNESCO with the production of a 5-to-10-minute documentary and three 1-minute promotional videos and to produce a series of documentary photographs and videos from several events and literacy classes that captures the essence of the subject matter. The videographer and photographer need to document the events, people and places involved in the literacy programme with the aim of creating a visual narrative. Long Description ---------------- **Scope of Work** Under the overall authority of the Officer-in-Charge of UNESCO Office in Kabul and the overall supervision of the Head of Education Unit, the consultant will be responsible for the followings: 1. Collaborate with the assigned UNESCO personnel (Documentary Director) for the pre-production and post-production of three 1-minute videos and one 5-10 minutes short documentary: - The individual is expected to conduct interviews with beneficiaries, particularly women and girls, as directed by the Documentary Director. - The individual should prepare the set for interviews. - The individual is required to provide assistance to the Documentary Director when filming the documentary at any stage. - The individual should provide inputs in the written script if applicable. - The individual must create a trust environment and relax all beneficiaries to film in a natural environment. - Assist the Documentary Director in editing and organizing the raw data. - Handle and distribute production-related paperworks. - Distribute and collect consent forms from beneficiaries and make sure all consent forms have been taken with correct details. 1. Long Description ---------------- 4. Travel to the project area field, accompanied by relevant UNESCO personnel, and capture high quality documentary photographs and videos that represent the subject matter. 5. Conduct and record interviews with key individuals to collect information. - The consultant will be briefed prior to the missions. 6. Make sure that UNESCO logo and donors’ logos (if applicable) (imprinted on promotional materials or staff vests) is visible in the majority of photos. The subject of the photographs should be UNESCO personnel, beneficiaries, partners, and other stakeholders involved. 7. Ensure the photos have proper lighting, noise free and well composited. 8. Maintain accurate records of all photographs taken. 9. Select and minor-edit best photographs and videos. 10. Properly name, organize, and upload all captured contents to the cloud as requested by the relevant UNESCO personnel. **Photographer’s Obligations** 1. Follow UNESCO’s policies and procedures for visual communication, photographs, and videos. 2. Have UNESCO photo consent form(s) signed by those who are being photographed or interviewed. 3. Respect the privacy and dignity of the people being photographed or video recorded. 4. Document when and where the photographs and videos are captured. Long Description ---------------- **Deliverables and Timeline** 1- Production (Pre/Post Production) of three videos(one minute each video) from the field showcasing UNESCO’s programme (10 November 2023); 2- Production (Pre/Post Production) of one 5-10 minutes documentary videos from the field showcasing UNESCO's programme (10 November 2023); 3- Capture 200 high quality photos selected among all photos from events, workshops field mission and/or classes showcasing UNESCO’s achievements, activities, and goals and upload them in a separate folder in cloud (31 December 2023). Note: If the consultant is a woman, the consultant should be available to travel within Kabul and in the neighboring province(s) and should be accompanied by a Mahram, and *UNESCO takes no responsibility for the Mahram.* **Work Modality** The consultant is to report to the UNESCO Kabul Office directly to the assigned UNESCO personnel and should regularly come to office. Travel with UNESCO personnel to the project site(s) and, if needed, stay overnight with one of her Mahrams. During the work, Mahram should accompany her to every single location. UNESCO will not take any responsibility for the Mahram accompanying her. ###### **COMPETENCIES (Core / Managerial)** Accountability (C) Communication (C) Innovation (C) Knowledge sharing and continuous improvement (C) Planning and organizing (C) Results focus (C) Teamwork (C) Professionalism (C) **-** ----- For detailed information, please consult the [UNESCO Competency Framework](https://en.unesco.org/sites/default/files/competency_framework_e.pdf). **REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS** --------------------------- **Education:** - Degree/Certificate in photography, photojournalism, or any related field. **Work Experience:** - At least 5 years of professional experience in documentary videography and photography. - Experience of recording professional videos. **Language:** - Fluency in English and one of the national languages (Dari and/or Pashtu) is required (both written and spoken). **OTHER SKILLS AND COMPENTENCIES** ---------------------------------- 1. Excellent understanding of frame and angles. 2. Experience of traveling outside Kabul for days and capturing photographs. 3. Proficient in using different types of cameras, lenses, and lighting setup to capture high quality images. 4. Able to capture images that convey emotion, context and meaning. Have a keen eye for details and be able to anticipate and capture vital moments. 5. Know the cultural sensitivity and be very cautious. 6. Able to communicate effectively with subjects to create a relaxed environment. 7. After capturing images, able to select best photographs and edit them accordingly. **CONDITION OF WORK AND APPLICATION PROCESS** --------------------------------------------- UNESCO will not provide any equipment to the consultant. The consultant should use his/her own equipment. Use professional full frame digital single-lens reflex camera and lenses, preferably 5d Mark 3 for photography and Mark 4/C100/Sony Alpha with few lenses good in low light situations when filming. Use professional wide, normal and zoom lenses.
