Organizational Setting

The project “Development of sustainable and inclusive local agro-food systems in north-west region of Azerbaijan” aims to establish local agro-food systems that integrate sustainable food production, processing, marketing, distribution and consumption supported by a demand driven agricultural advisory services system in the north-west region of Azerbaijan (Gakh, Zagatala and Balakan).

Technical Focusű In this context, under the overall supervision of the Head of FAO Partnership and Liaison Office in Azerbaijan, direct supervision of the Assistant to FAO Representative and the technical supervision of the Lead Technical Officer, the consultant will assist in development of the approach and in initiation of the process of registration of certain local food products with Geographical Indications (GI). The consultant will specifically carry out the following functions: Tasks and responsibilities • Identify local agro-food product that require GI registration • Provide consultation on GI integration and participate in discussion of GIAHS(Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems) • action plan and its implementation • Initiate GI registration process in coordination with relevant authorities and local stakeholders • Conduct awareness raising activities on GI registration and its benefits in the project region • Continuously provide briefs about the meetings, trainings, research findings, recommendations, and achievements to project colleagues and the project’s Visibility & Communication Specialist for further sharing with wider audience

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

• An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in relevant field, • A minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional experience in food technology sector; • Working knowledge of English.

Technical/Functional Skills

• Report on selection of local agro-food products for GI registration • A concept note on the approach and implementation methodology of GI registration in Azerbaijan • Meetings with local stakeholders to raise awareness of GI • Integration of GI registration approach into GIAHS action plan • Consultation with the Ministry of Agriculture and other relevant authorities on initiation of registration of GI for selected local products • Strong capabilities in formulating complex scopes of work; • Excellent computer skills especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint; • Ability to take on assignments that require travel, mission and/or appointment to field locations;
