Duties and Responsibilities

Background The International Trade Centre (ITC) is the joint agency of the United Nations and the World Trade Organisation for trade-related technical cooperation in developing countries. ITC is implementing the project "El Salvador: Llamatepec - Sustainable Exports," funded by the European Union under the framework of the Action "Support to El Salvador's Social Plan: Private Sector Development." The project will contribute to the generation of income and employment in El Salvador through exports to the European Union and to Central America. The project will make this contribution via two specific objectives by: • Improving the export supply capacity and the sustainability of Salvadorian ICT, orange tourism service providers (companies, entrepreneurs and communities). • Increasing the internationalization of companies, entrepreneurs and communities that provide ICT and orange tourism services. This assignment is part of the project that focuses on the ICT sector and will mainly contribute to Output 1.1. It is related to the Export Strategy training and coaching programme of SMEs that will be initiated in El Salvador to build upon the Export Marketing Plan (EMP) methodology. The implementation of the EMP-methodology will further enhance the export competitiveness of beneficiary companies in the ICT-sector in El Salvador and generate new regional and/or global export revenues for the sector. The EMP-readiness is specifically designed for technology SMEs. It targets IT start-ups and companies that are growing domestically or expanding regionally and globally. The findings generated during the exercises will be used to compose an Export Marketing Plan at the end of the programme. The EMP strategy plan will serve as a roadmap to guide companies into the arena of domestic/regional/global business and determines internal and external market opportunities at the same time. The supported capacity building will focus on making the companies more resilient and to increasing and improving the companies’ domestic and regional market approach. For this, national consultants will be selected and trained alongside the above beneficiary ITO&BPO SMEs. In total 2 national consultants will be selected. A “training of trainers” (ToT) component is incorporated in the programme. The task of the national consultant will include provision of coaching and support to around 15-20 SME beneficiaries and to carry out the duties of a national trainer and coach; preparing, coordinating, coaching and executing the EMP-trainings. The training and coaching sessions will be organised in close cooperation with ITC’s international consultant. The national consultants must adapt the current EMP-material and approach to fit the specifics of the ITO/BPO sector in El Salvador. S/he should provide practical examples of work undertaken by ITO/BPO companies in developing countries in general: In giving examples during training sessions s/he must address specific concerns of enterprises operating in developing countries. The 2024 EMP work programme for the national consultants will include 14 days in total: • 2 days for participating in 2 workshops, including 1 day preparation each (totalling 6 days) • 2 days for company visits and twice 2 days distance coaching by zoom (totalling 6 days • 2 days for overall communication with selected companies, and liasing with the Ilamatepec project manager and EMP lead trainer Programme of national consultants: • They will go through the complete EMP-training to understand the material from a participant and company perspective. • They will be coached on training methodologies, how to present the training programme. • ToT-trainers will start in August 2024 with coaching of the companies. • Over a period of 5 months till December 2024, t he trainers will be trained, exercised and coached on all 4 blocks of the EMP-model. • During this period, they will participate in the SME-training in September and December practicing and delivering an EMP-topic training session to participating companies. Duties and Responsibilities Working under the overall guidance and supervision of the Project Manager in the office for Latin America and the Caribbean (OLAC) and under the direct guidance of the technical sections in charge of programming and delivering technical assistance activities, the consultant will carry out the following tasks required for the implementation of the project activities: 1. Training Preparation • Attend training of trainers sessions by the lead EMP trainer • Familiarize him/herself with the project and the selected companies by studying diagnostic reports and other material already elaborated on the companies and training provided; • Draft an outline of specific workshops part of the EMP-model in consultation with the lead international consultant; • Hand in EMP-training presentation materials; • Provide on-the-ground support for the coordination and planning of the training sessions to the international consultant. 2. Execution/coordination • Provide on the ground overall coordination during the programme; • Regarding the execution of specific EMP-workshops, be responsible for the quality (clarity, practicality etc.), the subject demarcation, the duration of the clinic and training sessions and the level of interaction. • Document attendance of all attendees at each workshop in an excel sheet including their first name, last name, job title, email address, company name, gender and age • Regarding the execution of specific coaching sessions: o For training purposes, each national consultant will be linked to a group of 10 to 15 participating SMEs o Identification of a unique value proposition for each SME o In cooperation with the international consultant work with the companies and guide them to build on the identified unique value proposition and develop strong sales arguments through one-on-one meetings o Documented meetings (minutes provided online not later than 2 working days after actual meeting date), during which the consultant reviews progress achieved on the agreed-upon actions points and identify, with the companies, corrective measures and steps forward o Provision of advice, guidance and facilitation for SMEs in implementing solutions, support in the change management process 3. Evaluation • The assignment will contribute to our following indicator: “Number of beneficiaries (MSMEs, entrepreneurs) that have made changes in their businesses related to the relevance and quality of their services, customer service, marketing or other export areas”. In coordination with the ITC project team, send out the ITC Ilamatepec evaluation form after each workshop to all attendees and ensure a 100% response rate by following up with those who have not responded Copyright Clause: The Consultant has to ensure that s/he has obtained the necessary permissions with regard to intellectual property rights required to perform his/her services under this consultancy contract and for the subsequent dissemination by ITC in any form. Documentary proof is to be submitted to ITC. Should any license fee be due for the use of copyrighted materials of third parties, the Consultant shall request prior written permission from ITC. S/he has further to ensure to obtain accreditation to event(s), if required. Qualifications/special skills

University degree in economics, trade, finance or international business; Extensive relevant experience my be accepted in lieu of the university degree. A minimum of four (4) years of experience in the ITO/BPO business arena and ideally have operated in or managed an ITO/BPO company Experience working in the EU market, or exporting services to the EU market Working experience in the area of management consulting/advisory/coaching. Experience in training, coaching and running workshops; Skills: Analytical thinking and strategy design skills; capacity to conceptualize, write well and communicate ideas effectively; Result driven and be able to create an business development (regional) mindset; Create a critical thinking process within the management team in order to further develop and organize the company’s business development (regional) activities in the highest achievable way (knowledge, instruments and skills) - Strategy Building!; Understanding of Information Technology (IT) and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) is essential; Familiarity with SME capacity needs and the pre-requisite resources for a business to be deemed healthy; Familiarity with generic diagnostic tools.
