Through the implementation of the ECI pilot, all children from birth to 60 months of age will benefit from improved knowledge and care of their parents and caregivers on early childhood care and development. More importantly, children with developmental delays, disability and chronic illnesses will benefit most from early intervention and can transition into the inclusive preschools, kindergartens and schools smoothly.

Develop transitions training module for Early Childhood Intervention

How can you make a difference?

Description of Assignment:

Tasks/ Milestones 1

Adaptation of AEPS (a. review assessment items under social communication area of the Child Observation Data Recording Form (CODRF) with the view of stages of Myanmar language development, adapt or change accordingly and provide examples b. provide guidance note for adaptation into other ethnic languages including process, Dos and Don’ts in adaptation with respect to early language development.

1.a. Adapted CODRF forms of AEPS (Social Communication: Language Development and Communication

1.b. Guidance note for adaptation of CODRF into ethnic languages

Tasks/ Milestones 2:

Develop self learning modules for Schools and ECD and KG and primary school teachers on the followings

  • Using the AEPS 3rd edition as reference, guidance for school personnels (principals, teachers and Parent Teachers Associations/School Management Committee members) on smooth transition from ECI to new learning environment with a school wide approach/ a whole school approach
  • Guidance for classroom teachers on teaching learning approaches and strategies to effectively provide universal, targeted and specialized support to meet the needs of individual children
  • Develop guideline for portfolio development of teachers with respect to professional learning and experience of transition programme

Home-based/ In-Person Coaching

Deliverables 2:

2.a. Field tested Module for schools on smooth transition of children from ECI to new learning environment

2.b. Field tested Module for classroom teachers on teaching learning approaches and strategies for children with individual learning needs

2.c. Field tested module on portfolio development for teachers engaged in the transition programme

Tasks/ Milestones 3:

Prepare final report with recommendations

Deliverables 3:

Final narrative report (maximum 20 pages) and power points with recommendations delivery of these modules

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • The consultancy is expected to be carried out by a qualified professional who has experience in a) early learning, b.) language development and c.) teacher education and who is proficient in both Myanmar language development and good English proficiency. At a minimum, the consultant is expected to meet the following qualifications

    • At least Bachelor degree, (Master and PhD are an asset), in one of the following fields is required: sociology, child development, linguistics, teacher education or other relevant technical fields
    • More than 10 years of experience in early childhood development programmes, or language development programmes, inclusive education, teacher education/development, working with/for ethnic minority children
    • Demonstrate experience in capacity building of community teachers with diverse educational background and experience
    • Able to show examples of similar work done for past clients
    • Demonstrate ability to deliver on time and with exceptional results
    • Capable of working in sensitive situations and under tight deadlines

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
