Objective of the programme

The objective of the WHO Bangladesh Country Office is to implement the Country Cooperation Strategy by supporting the Bangladesh Government in the formulation, implementation and evaluation of national health policies, strategies and plans and developing and managing WHO's technical cooperation programmes. The position is based in WHO strategic priority one on Universal Health Coverage (UHC). The focus of this position is to support implementation of the Bangladesh National Action Plan on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Containment, including reporting through the Global Antimicrobial Resistance and Use Surveillance System (GLASS).

Description of duties

Under the overall supervision of Deputy WHO Representative Bangladesh and direct supervision of Technical Officer, Essential Drugs and other Medicines, the incumbent will:

  • Support the development/update and implementation of the National Multi-Sectoral Action Plan on AMR (NAP).
  • Support the development and implementation of antimicrobial stewardship programs at national and facility levels.
  • Support the national program in the development of training modules on antimicrobial resistance.
  • Assist in training and capacity building at country level on WHO methodologies, tools and guidelines related to antimicrobial resistance.
  • Provide support to the national program in strengthening infection prevention and control practices in health facilities.
  • Contribute to the development of the knowledge, advice and work in addressing antimicrobial resistance with a One Health approach.
  • Support DGHS/CDC in coordinating the reporting of national AMR data to the GLASS
  • Support the generation and strengthening of AMR data to inform decision making
  • Monthly and quarterly report writing and take part in scientific writing
  • Assist Deputy Program Manager, Antimicrobial resistance, Viral hepatitis, Diarrhoeal diseases control, DGHS/CDC to communicate with WHO and other global networks
  • Assist in submitting reports to WHO regarding progress of the project
  • Collaborate with other project staff (as appropriate) to prepare reports, develop materials and official communication to respond to information requests and otherwise fulfill project information sharing responsibilities
  • Any other activities assigned by supervisor.

Required Qualifications:

Education:

Essential: Medical degree from a recognized medical college with valid Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council registration.

Desirable: Postgraduate degree in public health and allied subjects - master's in Public Health/ Epidemiology/Infectious diseases.

Experience:

Essential: At least 3 years of experience in public health, in infectious diseases control and/or

advocacy. Experience in project management and antimicrobial resistance related activities.

Desirable: Prior work experience with international organizations or civil society.

Functional Knowledge and Skills:

  • Good writing skill (in English professional writing) and communication skill
  • Ability to employ critical thinking skills and work independently to solve problems and contribute to achievement of deliverables.
  • Skills required in basic computer operating packages (Microsoft word, excel, PowerPoint etc.) and data analysis

Remuneration

WHO offers locally competitive packages such as:

  • Monthly salary: BDT 120,263.00 (SSA – 7, Step I) (non-negotiable)
