Objective of the programme

The Objective of WHO Bangladesh country office is to implement the cooperation strategy by supporting the Bangladesh Government in the formulation, implementation, and evaluation of national health policies, strategies, and plans and developing and managing the WHO’s cooperation programmes.

The Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA), the national regulatory authority in Bangladesh, is responsible for ensuring the quality, safety, and efficacy of medical products.

The Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA) is playing the role of a National Centre for Antimicrobial Consumption (AMC) Surveillance in Bangladesh and has been conducting the Antimicrobial Consumption Surveillance since 2019. DGDA has been active in pioneering the evidence to policy decisions specially through the introduction of a “Red Label identification mark” on the packaging materials of antimicrobials (both human and veterinary) for easy identification and to create public awareness. The position is based on the WHO strategic priority one on Universal health coverage (UHC). The focus of this position is to provide technical support to DGDA in developing AMR advocacy materials and support AMR advocacy and awareness campaigns.

Description of duties:

Under the overall supervision of Deputy WHO Representative Bangladesh and direct supervision by Technical Officer, Essential Drugs and other Medicines, the incumbent will:

  • Provide technical support to DGDA regarding the development of AMR advocacy and awareness campaign materials.
  • Provide support in conducting countrywide advocacy and awareness campaigns.
  • Design an advocacy campaign to raise awareness of the general public, healthcare professionals and medicines retailers on the rational use of Antimicrobials in collaboration with AMR cell, DGDA.
  • Develop a communication strategy for rational use of Antimicrobials.
  • Provide guidance to graphic designers for designing appropriate advocacy materials.
  • Develop content for media (TV, social media) advertisements on rational use of antimicrobials based on the recently introduced red identification mark on antibiotics.
  • Test the advocacy messages to review audiences.
  • Conduct meetings (national and divisional) with stakeholders to deliver AMR messages based on advocacy campaigns/materials.
  • Develop terms of reference and membership criteria for pharmacy and therapeutics committees in hospitals.
  • Perform any other responsibilities/functions assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:

Education:

Essential:

  • Bachelor’s degree in medicine, pharmacy, communication, or related field from a reputed University
  • Postgraduate /Master’s degree in public health or relevant field.

Desirable: Specialized training on antimicrobial resistance containment. Training on mass communication or advocacy.

Experience:

Essential: At least 5 years of experience in AMR-related areas and/or public health advocacy.

Desirable:

Experience working with Government/development partner agencies.

Good knowledge of administrative and financial rules, processes, and procedures used by of WHO, UN, Government, and/or NGOs.

WHO offers locally competitive packages such as:

  • Monthly salary: BDT 153,695.00 (SSA – 8 Step I) (non-negotiable)
