Under the Supervision of the Deputy Representative, UNICEF Sri Lanka is seeking a consultancy to support the implementation of the B4R action plan, which the Country Office developed and committed to following the aforementioned deep dive training. More specifically, in close coordination with UNICEF Sri Lanka staff, ROSA, as well as a stretch assignment from UNICEF Private Fundraising and Partnership (PFP) Division, the consultant will:

  1. Expand private sector engagement
                1. Support programme colleagues in identifying how businesses and their impacts are relevant to programme priorities;
    1. Support the identification of potential for expansion with existing corporate partners and opportunities for collaboration with new corporates, building on existing country office analysis;
    2. Maintain a database of corporate requests for partnership;
    3. Support the development of a package of materials that can be used as pitches/asks with corporates for shared value partnerships;
    4. Support internal and external communication to share/promote UNICEF’s work with the private sector.
  2. Support continued learning and capacity development

Support UNICEF Sri Lanka’s Human Resource team to set up:

a. Trainings for country office staff to improve the efficacy and effectiveness of their engagement with corporate partners and business stakeholders.

3. Strengthen internal communication and knowledge management

a. Document good practices and lessons learned on B4R;

b. Write up case studies on UNICEF Sri Lanka’s engagement with the private sector;

c. Develop a protocol for UNICEF Sri Lanka on engagement with private sector partners

4. Planning new Country Programme Document (CPD)

Support the inclusion of B4R and private sector considerations into the new UNICEF Sri Lanka CPD, ensuring that B4R and private sector fundraising approaches are aligned. This includes: setting up a process to ensure that private sector considerations are integrated at all steps; that a methodology is set up to bring in external private sector perspectives when/where appropriate; to review documents and provide suggestions for integration in Theory of Changes and Programme Strategy Notes, and recommendations for setting up an organisational structure and a monitoring and evaluation framework for the new CPD.

The consultant will also support other tasks related to the implementation of the B4R agenda with close coordination with other teams in the country as required.

[Organization & Management]

Management: The consultant will work under the supervision of the Deputy Representative, UNICEF Sri Lanka and in close consultation with the ROSA B4R focal point.

The evaluation of the contractor(s)’ performance will be based on:

  1. Quality of produced outputs;
  2. Compliance with the established timelines;
  3. Compliance with ethical UNICEF standards related to reporting on children;
  4. Responsibility and communication.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  1. Education: Advanced university degree in a relevant field such as Business Administration, Economics, Political Science
  2. Years of experience:
  • At least 5 years of experience in engagements and partnerships with the private sector
  • Experience in facilitating consultations with business sector and government representatives and other stakeholders
  • Relevant experience in a UN system agency or organization is considered as an asset
  • Strong understanding of private sector dynamics in Sri Lanka is considered as an asset

Duty station - Colombo (home base)

The assignment will commence by June 2021 and end by February 2022 (full-time)
