JOB PURPOSE

To implement the WFP Iraq Communications Advocacy and Marketing strategy as well as reporting plan by supporting and delivering a range of communications and reports activities, providing research and analysis, and prioritizing effectively.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Implement country specific communication work plans designed to maintain and enhance the visibility and reputation of WFP, as well as support fundraising activities, ensuring alignment with overall communications and WFP strategies.
  • Maintain a contact list of journalists and media outlets and support the flow of news/information about WFP’s work to the media, in order to support regular and appropriate communications.
  • Collate relevant information and data from media and local internal and external sources to facilitate and maximize the exchange of information and data flow between functional area networks in WFP, to provide operational awareness and understanding of events that may have humanitarian or development impact.
  • Support the social media plan by developing social media content, and utilizing platforms, networks and partners to enhance coverage and support of WFP’s activities.
  • Generate donor specific visibility content including, text, photos, videos and audio for use across a range of integrated online platforms, in order to support global and country fund-raising activities, ensuring consistency with corporate messages.

  • Monitor and analyze traditional and social media to inform the development and/or evaluation of communication activities and strategies.

  • Collate outreach data contribute to the preparation of accurate and timely reports, Support communications activities that enable informed decision making and ensures consistency of information presented to the media and other stakeholders.
  • Support on translation/interpretation, government liaison, Talking Points and other support for Senior Management may also be required on an ad-hoc basis.
  • Support capacity building of WFP staff on all aspects of communication, provides advice and guidance within area and level of expertise, in order to ensure that all activities meet desired standards of consistency, quality and impact. For example the design and review of training materials.

  • Serve as focal point for the preparation of Annual Corporate Report (ACR) for the Annual Reporting Exercise in collaboration with the country office programme, monitoring & evaluation, logistics and resource management functions by coordinating to ensure coherence and quality of performance information.

  • Support staff in assigned area to ensure that standard Operational Information Management & Performance Reporting procedures and templates are followed to drive the quality, consistency and standardization of information management and performance reporting across WFP.
  • Support COs or RBs in emergencies by preparing, organizing and providing secretarial support to Operational Task Forces (OTFs).
  • Support the initiatives for developing improved, streamlined, and harmonized OIM & PR including drafting of OIM & PR related normative guidance, as required.
  • Other as required.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Advanced University degree in Social Sciences, International Development, Development Economics, Journalism, International Relations, Public Relations, or other relevant fields, or First University degree with additional years of related work experience and/or training/courses.

Experience: At least 5 years of professional experience in managing the implementation of communications plans and relationships with various stakeholders including but not limited to donor agencies, government partners, advocacy and faith-based organizations and other stakeholders

Language: Excellent written and oral communication skills in both English and Arabic. Fluency in Kurdish desired.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to articulate insights to stakeholders, persuade, influence, and adapt communication style to different situations and individuals.
  • Knowledge of common business principles and processes and the ability to quickly assimilate UN/WFP-specific processes and systems. Experience in the UN is desirable
  • Proficiency in the use of Adobe software (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, and InDesign), Canva, Wochit, I-video, and other video and graphics editing programs
