Organizational Setting

FAO's office for Iraq is responsible for developing, promoting, overseeing and implementing agreed strategies for addressing countrywide food, agriculture and rural development priorities while developing and maintaining relations with the relevant Ministries at country level.

Reporting Lines

Under the overall guidance of the FAO Representative (FAOR) and the direct supervision of the International Communication Specialist and in close collaboration with the Deputy Representative, Sr Resilience Team Leader, the country team and under the guidance of the RNE Communication team.

Technical Focus

Communications

The Communications Assistant shall contribute to strengthen FAO‘s communication products and outreach initiatives in Iraq and makes sure all work aligns the Regional (RNE) Outreach and Engagement Strategy and Plan; which channels the overall OCC strategy and planning. His/her support shall ensure an effective presence in the media of the FAO as a dynamic and renewed organization that works to strengthen food security and to promote agriculture, fisheries, livestock and the sustainable management of natural resources to the benefit of communities and rural people in need.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Assist in developing communications and public information materials for the FAO project activities in Iraq such as success stories, fact sheets, pamphlets, brochures, press releases, tweets, website content, and multimedia products in both English and Arabic languages;
  • Work with graphic designers, photographers, multimedia companies and printers to obtain materials in accordance with the organization’s specifications and visual identity;
  • Participate to the UN Iraq Strategic Communications Group including following up on joint UN Communications activities (i.e. Joint Statements/PRs and campaigns);
  • Liaise with FAO regional office and OCCI to maintain high visibility of FAO Iraq office on FAO social media and communications platforms;

  • Assist in reporting, editing and translation;
  • Undertake any other duty, as required.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in communication, social science, journalism, political science or a related field
  • Five years of relevant experience in communication, web publishing and/or social media networks
  • Working knowledge (level C) of English and of the local language of Arabic. Knowledge of Kurdish is an advantage;
  • Iraqi Nationality.
