Overview

Support and enhance visibility of FAO communications initiatives.

You have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Political Science or a related field is required.
  • At least 4 years of progressively responsible experience in providing support to the formulation and implementation of internal and external communications and advocacy strategies and related plans.
  • National of the Kyrgyz Republic or resident with a regular work permit.
  • Fluency in English, Russian and Kyrgyz is required.
  • Working knowledge of the other UN official working language is an asset.

Organizational Setting

FAO has partnered with the Kyrgyz Republic since the country joined the Organization in 1993. A country office was opened in 2009.

FAO assistance spans the agriculture sector, including crops, livestock and fisheries projects, support to sustainable land and forest management in the face of climate change, and disaster risk management.

FAO’s assistance in Kyrgyzstan is shaped by the 2018-2022 FAO Country Programming Framework (CPF), which is centered on three priority areas: • Priority 1: Coherent and gender-sensitive agricultural, food security and nutrition, social protection and rural development policies and programmes; • Priority 2: Reducing rural poverty through smallholder support; • Priority 3: Sustainable natural resource management, and resilience to climate change and disasters.

Reporting Lines

Under the overall supervision of the FAOR and the direct supervision of the Assistant FAO Representative, in close collaboration with the FEKYR programme managers/coordinators/national team leader, technical supervision of FAO-REU Agricultural Officer (LTO), the REU communication team and direct supervision of the STA, the Outreach Project Assistant works to assist in enhancing the visibility of FAO country programmes.

Tasks and responsibilities

• Assist in the implementation of global, regional and country communication strategies and campaigns to engage with local audiences on FAO and joint UN priority issues and/or major events, including the coordination of activities, monitoring and reporting on progress, taking appropriate follow-up actions, and analysing the outcomes; • Assist in development and implementation of a communication strategy and media plan for the FAO Office in Kyrgyzstan in accordance with current project activities; • Participate in the planning and coordination of outreach events and social cohesion activities using digital communication tools and in close cooperation with local media; • Support FAO global, regional and country digital campaigns over social media, websites and email outreach; • Research a broad scope of information sources, printed and electronic; compiles and presents information for use in the preparation and production of digital communication products/services for target audiences; • Coordinate the creation of FAO communication products (brochures, booklets, project bulletins, reports, posters, newsletters, presentations, etc.); • Coordinate and improve communication work with media partners, the private sector, CSOs, donors. national and international partners; • Assist in the monitoring and analysing of current events, public opinion and press, identify issues and trends, and inform management of possible action/responses using digital and other communication tools; • Assist in creation and promotion of digital content, including in local languages, different formats and/or platforms (e.g. infographic, videos, etc.), including proposing topics, undertaking research, writing drafts, obtaining clearances, copyediting and coordinating design approvals, translation procedures and distribution; • Assist in the dissemination of outreach materials; prepare, maintain and update UN in Kyrgyzstan and FAO websites, to include drafting and editing content; • Assist in public information/outreach and engagement with the public, such as outreach to educational institutions, Model UN, putting together exhibits based on materials from FAO, and giving presentations, etc.; • Acts as focal point on communication issues, monitoring and reporting on the latest trends and developments, responding to inquiries, participating in monitoring and evaluation exercises, etc.; • Provide communication support to FAOR/AFAOR, especially digital communications support, as needed; • Provide guidance to, and may supervise, junior colleagues, including other local staff, consultants, and/or interns; • Liaise closely with REU Communications Team to feed regional/national initiatives into corporate communications initiatives and vice versa; provide media monitoring results to REU Communication team on a weekly basis, place corporate op-eds with local top tier media • Ensure that all publications and documents to be disseminated via the FAO document repository are timely processed through the corporate Publications Workflow System (PWS), from their planning to production and dissemination. • ensure compliance of all products with: FAOSTYLE (English: https://www.fao.org/3/cb8081en/cb8081en.pdf; French: https://www.fao.org/3/AC339FR/ac339fr.pdf; Spanish: https://www.fao.org/3/ac339s/ac339s.pdf; Arabic: https://www.fao.org/3/ac339a/ac339a.pdf; Chinese: https://www.fao.org/3/ac339c/ac339c.pdf); FAONOCS https://www.fao.org/nocs); FAO terminology http://www.fao.org/faoterm; Publishing at FAO – Strategy and guidance http://www.fao.org/3/I7429EN/i7429en.pdf; FAO Brand and policy book. • Work in constant contact with the Publishing Group at FAO and ensure that all corporate publishing standards are adhered to in publications and documents. • Other related duties, as assigned.
