Recruitment open to : Internal and external candidates Application Deadline (Midnight Paris Time) : 24/06/2024 UNESCO Core Values: Commitment to the Organization, Integrity, Respect for Diversity, Professionalism **BACKGROUND OF THE ASSIGNMENT** -------------------------------- **Project:** Project for the design and oversight of the implementation of renovation (categorized in Ukrainian legislation as ‘reconstruction’ due to the change of functional purpose) to be performed at the shed inv. №10310047 (categorized in documentation in Ukrainian as a car box) to warehouse, for the use by Khortytsia Preserve as cultural property’s storage facility (address: Zaporizhzhia, Zapovidna str. 1). Khortytsia, the largest island of the Dnipro River, is one of the most famous archaeological sites in Ukraine. It received the national reserve status in 1993 and it is under the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine of Ukraine. Its area is about 23.5 square kilometres, almost 10% of the territory of the modern city of Zaporizhzhia. The island is 11.2 Km long and 2.5 Km wide (before drop in water level). Since the outbreak of the full-scale invasion on 24 February 2022, cultural heritage in Ukraine has been threatened by damage, theft, looting, and destruction. On 6 June 2023, the dam of the destruction of the Kakhovka dam has caused a sharp drop in water levels around the island exposing and putting at risk cultural properties in the reservoir’s area. The project seeks at providing a proper storage facility for the rescued artefacts and cultural properties, in the rehabilitated and equipped former shed inv. №10310047 (surface: 135 sqm). Under the direct supervision of the UNESCO Liaison officer / Head of Ukraine Desk and in consultation with relevant units at Kyiv Desk, the Consultant shall perform the design for the repairs, rehabilitation and refurbishment of the former shed inv.№10310047, to properly store the rescued cultural artifacts and perform basic first-aid, stabilization a conservation measures for the damaged artefacts. DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES --------------------- **DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES** To this end, the incumbent shall perform the following tasks: 1. 1. Assess and produce the assessment report on the conditions of the former shed inv. №10310047; 2. Provide a workplan for the design and the works. 3. Consult with the Director of Khortytsia National Reserve, and, based on the concept and needs identified, develop a comprehensive repair and refurbishment project for the former shed inv. №10310047, according to DBN 2.2-3-2014, including, but not limited to the following: 2. Architectural, repairs and construction solutions (roof, masonry, doors, windows, etc.) 3. Utilities (water, electrical, etc.) 4. Engineering equipment solutions 5. Basic drawings 6. Organization of construction site 7. Bill of Quantities 4. Once approved by UNESCO, submit all necessary documentation to the competent local authority to receive all necessary permissions for the implementation of the repair and construction work, as required. 5. Verify that the selected contractor to conduct the works, possess all the required documentation to perform the work at the facility. 6. Perform regular inspections to the site during the implementation of the works, consult with the Director of the of Khortytsia National Reserve and produce regular reports to UNESCO.
