Organizational Setting

The post is typically located in a Decentralized Office (Country Office), New Delhi.

Reporting Lines

Assist the Regional Project Coordinator, the regional AMR team, and the FAO India team in the overall implementation and progress monitoring of the OSRO/RAS/003/USA project in India;

Technical Focus

Coordinate and provide support in the implementation of other FAO RAP initiatives in India including review and piloting of new regional tools for AMR/AMU/antimicrobial residues;

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Support the key contact persons at FAO-RAP, FAO India and relevant government authorities on antimicrobial resistance (AMR), transboundary animal diseases (TADs) and policy-related issues in India;
  • Organize national/sub-national level trainings, capacity building activities, workshops and meetings related to AMR, TADs and policies;
  • Act as focal point for FAO ECTAD in India and thus be responsible for:

  • Activities related to the planning, implementation, policy development and advocacy on One Health AMR with relevant departments and senior officials within Ministry of Agriculture including the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR);

  • Engaging stakeholders related to activities for One Health AMR including relevant international and national institutions in the public health, animal health, private sectors and civil society, including World Health Organization (WHO), World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the India Network for Fisheries and Animals Antimicrobial Resistance (INFAAR);
  • Communicating with USAID at country level as necessary;

  • Organize regular meetings among key stakeholders such as ICAR, Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, and USAID and other relevant officials to jointly assess progress with AMR work and document proceedings following each meeting;

  • With the support of colleagues at FAO-RAP, coordinate the piloting of the OIE/FAO Regional Guideline #5 on Monitoring antimicrobial use (AMU) at farm level (document not yet published);
  • With the support of colleagues at FAO-RAP, coordinate (or provide support to) the development of national veterinary antimicrobial therapy guidelines in at least one important food-producing animal species in India;
  • Perform other tasks as required; and,
  • Prepare and submit an End-of-Assignment report on the works carried out under this contract, including recommendations.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: Post Graduate in Veterinary Sciences with PhD in related subject
  • Experience: 3 to 5 years of experience on work related to antimicrobial resistance, antimicrobial use and zoonosis under the scope of One Health
  • Languages: Should be well versed in English, working knowledge of local language Hindi
  • Nationality of India or resident in the country with a regular work permit.
