N-24-47 Data Scientist & Statistical Specialist
The International Potato Center (CIP) is seeking a dedicated and motivated Data Scientist & Statistical Specialist to enhance our Digital & Data division.
The position: The selected candidate will contribute to CIP’s digital transformation efforts with a particular emphasis on leveraging data and new digital technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI) to advance scientific research and innovation. This role is focused on data science with a strong emphasis on analytics. The position will be based in Lima, Peru and will report to the Systems and Data Management Officer.
Key responsibilities:
Contribute strategically to the planning and execution of data management initiatives within the organization, providing specialized expertise and insights.
Oversee and manage the day-to-day operations related to data management, demonstrating proficiency in implementing and maintaining protocols.
Support Open Access (OA) and Open Data (OD) initiatives to increase the visibility, accessibility, and impact of CIP’s research products, aligning with organizational policies and guidelines.
Collaborate with stakeholders to identify opportunities for enhancing data management systems, Apps, databases, and tools, providing input based on specialized knowledge.
Spearhead the implementation of "Ask the Data" functionality in CIP's data repositories, utilizing LangChain and integrating OpenAI for natural language processing.
Contribute to the development of applications and dashboards to support the integration of AI technologies, leveraging expertise in data science and analysis.
Comply with applicable health and safety CIP policies and procedures.
Requirements
What are we looking for?
A degree in Statistics, Biology, Agronomy, Biotechnology, or a related field is essential. A master's degree or postgraduate specialization in Statistical Modeling and Computation in Applications or a related area is highly desirable.
At least 6 years of extensive experience in data management, with a strong background in AI, data science, and advanced statistical analysis. Profound expertise in utilizing data management and statistical analysis software, including Python and R, demonstrating proficiency in implementing and maintaining protocols.
Proven track record in managing and preserving research data, ensuring data integrity and quality.
Experience in providing training and user support for statistical analysis software, enhancing user proficiency and effectiveness.
Demonstrated experience in ensuring the quality and reliability of research data through rigorous analysis and validation processes.
Proficient in statistical modeling and computational techniques applied across various domains and applications.
Deep understanding and experience in machine learning, from foundational linear models to advanced algorithms and applications
Demonstrated expertise in data management and statistical analysis software, particularly Python and R, including proficiency in R Markdown/Quarto, Git/Github, High Performance Computing (HPC), Linux, Deep Learning, and Machine Learning.
