Role Summary

NRC as a member of the Education Cannot Wait (ECW) Grantee Consortium in South Sudan also manages a secretariat that supports the Ministry of General Education and Instruction (MoGEI) as chair of the Multi-Year Resilience Programme (MYRP) Steering Committee. The MYRP Steering Committee is an in-country high-level entity at the policy level responsible for overall strategic guidance and is constituted by multiple stakeholders that are Donors, the National Education Coalition (NEC), UN agencies, National Education Cluster and civil society representatives. The Secretariat therefore serves to support the Steering Committee in executing key roles namely policy advocacy, resource mobilization, promoting coherence and effectiveness in the programme as well as ensuring the smooth running of the business of the Steering Committee.

ECW is a Multi-Year Resilience Programme (MYRP), now in its third year. The position of MYRP Secretariat Intern reports to MYRP Secretariat Coordinator and is part of the ECW-MYRP Secretariat. The MYRP Secretariat has a functional accountability to the MoGEI as the chair of the Steering Committee and an administrative accountability to NRC and its rules and regulations. Housed within the MoGEI, the purpose of the MYRP Secretariat Intern position is to implement by the MYRP Secretariat Coordinator delegated MYRP project portfolio administrative and support tasks.

Generic Responsibilities:

  1. Comply with NRC policies and practice with respect to child protection, code of conduct, health and safety, and other relevant policies and procedures.
  2. Provide administrative support to the MYRP Secretariat.
  3. Support the dissemination of information/sensitisation/communication materials.

Specific responsibilities

  • Manage the administrative aspects of MYRP project portfolio, including liaising with education stakeholders, logistics of scheduling meetings, e.g. technical and thematic working groups, preparing meeting materials, taking and circulate minutes of meetings, etc.
  • Update emailing lists of education stakeholders.
  • Ensure proper filing of documents.
  • Manage the administrative aspects of Secretariat’s staff and consultants travel. This includes responsibility of liaising with area offices, handling travel arrangements and travel claims, etc.
  • Support in campaign activities and in delivery of advocacy and communication messages.
  • Assists with planning and management of special internal and external functions and events for MoGEI officials and Education stakeholders.
  • Any other duty assigned by the Secretariat Coordinator.

Competencies

Competencies are important in order for the employee and the organisation to deliver desired results. They are relevant for all staff and are divided into the following two categories:

Professional competencies

  • At least a Second Year Student enrolled in a recognised tertiary academic institution in journalism, mass communication or any other relevant field
  • Some experience working in designing information management systems or database management, and analytic with computer skills, including advanced MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access), GIS, Power BI are required.
  • Knowledge of developing and implementing media, advocacy and campaign messages.
  • Good English communication skills, both written and verbal.

Context related skills, knowledge and experience (shall be adapted to the specific position):

  • Strong organisational and team working skills
  • Good cultural awareness and sensitivity
  • Highly approachable, trustworthy and confidential
  • Advanced English Language level (Business English is a plus)
  • Knowledge of the NGO operations and the dynamics of the humanitarian sector is a plus

DUTY STATION AND LIVING CONDITIONS

The position is based with MYRP’s Secretariat office in Juba, South Sudan, with frequent travel to the field.
