The country is committed to improving the nutrition situation of children by creating and establishing strong and sustained governance for nutrition, hence the national integrated nutrition programme in Burundi envisions fighting against all forms of malnutrition with a focus on improving access to nutritious and affordable diets for children aged 6 to 23 months. To support that effort, UNICEF in collaboration with the Government of Burundi and with the financial support from the Government of the Netherlands is supporting interventions aiming to prevent all forms of undernutrition in children, adolescents, and women, especially the most vulnerable, and to detect and treat child wasting in children through multi-system actions.

How can you make a difference?

The consultancy will be undertaken in two phases: • Phase 1: Support the organization of a workshops: i) on adaptation of maternal nutrition framework action and ii) on adaptation of First Food framework for action. • Phase 2: Develop multisectoral budgeted plans for improving: i) maternal nutrition, ii) children’s diets in Burundi.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Master’s degree in public health and nutrition, Nutrition Science preferred or other relevant field, such as Public Health, Epidemiology, Programming and Planning
  • Previous experience in developing strategies, plans and costing of the plan; Experience in conducting similar assignments, with samples of own work to be submitted upon request; Minimum five years of relevant work experience in nutrition programming
  • Strong interpersonal skills and, experienced in facilitating multi-stakeholder workshop; Previous experience with multi-sectoral, multi-stakeholder program planning, development, review, and evaluation; Sound research and analytical skills
  • Fluency in written and spoken French and English is required.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
