Job Title: Consultancy – Multimedia Producer & Photographer

Duration: 11 months (max 25 days of work )

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

The UN World Food Programme (WFP) has significant plans for growth in brand awareness and broader supporter engagement, as well as an ambitious private sector fundraising strategy to grow engagement and income from individuals. Powerful and engaging story content, captured and distributed in a timely and strategic way, is critical to achieving this ambition.

The consultant will report directly to the Senior Story Producer (Creative, Content and Branding team, Stories and Planning unit) and will travel to the field and capture video and photos to brief, schedule and budget, and plan, develop and deliver final multimedia content as requested.

ACCOUNTABITLITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

Final deliverables for each trip will be defined through the year with specific briefs prior to deployment. Responsibilities will likely include:

  • Leading and managing the scoping and identifying strong storylines to tell compelling stories;
  • Traveling to the field to capture high-quality photos (and footage, as required) of beneficiaries and staff, to highlight the overall work of WFP;
  • Providing advice and support to regional bureaus and country offices involved in hosting content missions on suggested storylines and visuals
  • Planning and managing pre-mission briefings and post-mission debrief calls, to align on deliverables and logistics;
  • As required, interviewing and gathering informed consent from interviewees, following WFP consent guidance and forms;
  • Overseeing the development and delivery of case study forms related to beneficiary stories, as required;
  • Delivering photos with full captions and meta data via WFP’s digital asset management system, the Multimedia Hub;
  • Working within the agreed content ingestion protocols and post-production workflows of the WFP Multimedia Hub and independently uploading all photos (and/or video products, as required);
  • Contributing inputs on uploading guidance for photo and video contributors and how to effectively manage this process, as required;
  • If requested, delivering footage (interviews and/or bespoke b-roll packages) with detailed video logs via the Multimedia Hub, as required;
  • Independently developing storyboards, scripting, producing and editing a variety of final video products to brief and tight schedule (as required), to engage target audiences with the work of WFP. Products could include social media edits, b-roll packages and explainer videos.

Note: WFP owns the copyright of all images and/or footage gathered. The photographer can use the images and/or footage for purposes of portfolio or non-lucrative exhibitions of their work and with prior permission obtained from WFP. The photographer may not share any material produced under assignment for WFP with third parties.

DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT:

  • To brief, deliver complete photo packages from all content trips, with full captions/metadata. Content should be developed, processed and delivered according to the timeframes specified in each individual brief;
  • As required, delivered complete video packages to brief from all content trips, with full video logs and metadata. Content should be developed, processed and delivered according to the timeframes specified in each individual brief;
  • As required, delivered edited video products to meet specific requests of Creative Studio, in time to hit content deadlines. This will be specified in each individual brief.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Media Production, Film Making, photography, communication or journalism OR relevant certificate/licenses/courses with additional years of experience

Experience:

At least 13 years of relevant professional experience with photography and post-production, including work for NGOs and UN Agencies.

Knowledge & Skills:

  1. Extensive experience as a photojournalist and multimedia producer, using imagery to tell compelling stories, including for NGOs;

    1. Extensive experience with photo processing and post-production;
    2. Experience editing and producing high-quality video products using Premier Pro/ Avid and/or other editing software;
    3. Proven track record of building rapport with and putting interviewees/ subjects at ease, treating everyone with dignity and respect;
    4. Experience working in a range of countries, including in Asia and Africa;
    5. Experience working with Goodwill Ambassadors on assignment with UN agencies desirable;
    6. Ability to work with WFP teams and other freelancers, e.g. videographers, to deliver to brief;
    7. Proactive and highly organized, with strong time management and planning skills;
    8. Able to meet tight deadlines and remain calm under pressure.

    Languages: Excellent knowledge of English (level C) is required. An intermediate knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) or Portuguese (one of WFP’s working languages) is a plus.
