A Multimedia Intern will be a part of Mercy Corps Communications team. The objective of our communication in Ukraine is to elevate awareness about Mercy Corps, engage local communities, and showcase Mercy Corps' humanitarian impact in Ukraine through diverse communication channels. In our communication, we strive to encompass local communities, partners in Ukraine, international partners, and our colleagues in Mercy Corps both in Ukraine, and globally.
The work of the Communications team involves:
- communications support to the Mercy Corps teams and partner organizations, including conducting briefings on MC communications & visibility requirements; reviewing, rewriting, and designing materials prepared by teams;
- leading our external and internal communication channels, which include 1) external: social media, media engagement, webpages, visibility materials; 2) internal: newsletter, reporting;
- content creation and distribution, including the production of success stories (which are a combination of photos, videos and interviews) and cooperation with the global photographer and content-producer, partner organizations and external suppliers to create a wider range of materials.
The Communications Intern will support Mercy Corps Ukraine’s communications activities with a focus on digital outreach and visibility.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the creation of Mercy Corps Ukraine’s external newsletter, including design, content coordination, and monthly distribution.
- Support the management of social media channels – preparing posts, monitoring engagement, and responding to inquiries.
- Assist with visibility and communication procurement, ensuring compliance with branding and donor guidelines.
- Provide general support to the communications team in preparing materials and documenting activities (including basic video editing upon request).
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
By the end of the internship, the Communications Intern will be able to:
- Develop practical communication skills by independently creating Mercy Corps Ukraine’s external newsletter — from concept and design to publication.
- Strengthen digital communication and social media management skills, including content planning, community engagement, and performance tracking.
- Gain experience in visual communication and branding, ensuring materials comply with organizational and donor visibility standards.
- Understand communication workflows within an international humanitarian organization, including coordination, approvals, and cross-team collaboration.
- Build project management and organizational skills through planning and delivering recurring communication products.
- Develop a deep understanding of humanitarian communication: The intern will learn about the principles and best practices of humanitarian communication, with a focus on communicating complex issues in a clear and engaging way.
- Gain a deep understanding of humanitarian field through Mercy Corps' programs: The intern will collaborate with program teams to learn about the specific needs and challenges faced by communities Mercy Corps serves. They will gain insights into the organization's approach to humanitarian assistance and development.
DELIVERABLES:
- Design and launch of Mercy Corps Ukraine’s external newsletter, including approved layout, content coordination, and mailing list management.
- At least three subsequent monthly newsletters prepared, approved, and distributed on schedule.
- Regular social media updates, including drafted posts, visuals.
- Support materials for visibility procurement, such as finalized design files, vendor coordination notes, or branding checklists.
