Result of Service The Multimedia graphic designer consultant will support the UN-REDD Programme to achieve two main goals: - Design communication and knowledge products with a focus on data visualization and data storytelling to help UNEP and the UN-REDD team meet its growing need for quality design and data visualization services. This will include design of publications, infographics, banners, and other communication materials. - Collaborate with UNEP and the UN-REDD team, as well as other partners, to ensure alignment and consistency in messaging and branding, and that all products and reports follow UNEP and UN-REDD visual guidelines, provide the best possible functionality and usability, and contribute to the overall branding and communication process.

This consultancy will include layout and design of papers, brochures, reports, infographics, banners, and other communication products with a focus on data visualization and storytelling and in line with the latest trends in design and communication while ensuring the implementation and adherence to existing graphic guidelines.

Responsibilities and Activities - Design publications, reports, presentations, banners, infographics, and any other communication product with a focus on data visualization and storytelling and implementing innovative trends. - Provide sourcing of graphics elements like photographic images and illustrations. - Process data and information and display it in a way that is appropriate to the different target audiences. - Create web stories and web articles for UN-REDD website. - Collaborate with other teams within the organization to ensure alignment and consistency in messaging and branding. - Participate in weekly calls with the Knowledge Management and Communications team and in bi-weekly calls with Latin America and the Caribbean team. - Provide innovative ideas for data presentation, improve the quality of visual communication of UN-REDD Programme activities. - Participate in the dissemination of regional events and exchanges. - Ensure alignment with UN-REDD and UNEP communication guidelines. - Ensure quality and suitability of every product developed for the needs of the team and directed at the target audience(s).

Further detailed specifications for each individual assignment will be given to the selected Data Visualization Expert as and when the services are requested.

Delivery of the following Products: Design knowledge products with focus on data storytelling and support regional events.

Product No. 1: A document that includes: 1. Carbon pricing paper re-design 2. One infographic for the report on carbon pricing 3. Banners for kick-off webinar of the ‘Safeguard working group” in LAC. 4. Event assets such as PowerPoints, flyers, exhibits, social media toolkits, etc. for the Amazon Summit 5. Presentation with infographics, photos, and other visual imagery for Costa Rica Exchange

Product 2: A document that includes. 1. One approximately 10-page paper about REDD+ Standards, nesting and finance for forests (Paper1) design 2. Two infographics for Paper1 3. One carrousel banner for social media related to Paper1. 4. Regional Exchange Communications materials for Panama (invitation, presentations in PPT).

Product 3: A document that includes. 1. Paper1 design and customization for Spanish, Portuguese, and French translations. 2. Paper1 infographics adjusted for Spanish, Portuguese, and French translations. 3. One infographic about safeguards for LAC (content to be selected considering the discussions of the Working Group) 4. Event assets such as PowerPoints, flyers, exhibits, social media toolkits, etc. for LAC Regional Exchange and LAC Climate Week

Product 4: A document that includes. 1. One approximately 10-page paper about countries contribution to the Green Gigaton Challenge (Paper2) design 2. Two infographics for Paper2 3. One carrousel banner for social media related to Paper2. 4. One web story/article design for LAC

Product 5: A document that includes. 1. Design and customize Paper2 translated to Spanish, Portuguese and French. 2. Adjust text for Paper2 infographic with its translation to Spanish, Portuguese, and French. 3. Design 3 infographics.

Product 6: A document that includes. 1. Two infographics about nesting in Spanish, Portuguese, and French. 2. Two carrousel banners for social media, with one focused on nesting and one focused on safeguards. 3. One web story/article design for LAC. 4. A short report with a summary and/or agenda of the coordination calls attended.

Duties and Responsibilities The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action.

The UNEP Latin America and the Caribbean Office (LACO), located in Panama City, works closely with the 33 countries of the region and its activities are integrated into the Medium-Term Strategy and the Programme of Work approved by the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA).

UNEP LACO oversees the implementation of several UNEP’s projects in the region of Latin America and the Caribbean. In this region, these projects are implemented by partners at national level in several countries, commissioned by the relevant government authorities. The main objective of UNEP is to strengthen countries’ capacity to identify and implement adaptation and mitigation measures aimed at increasing resilience to climate change of countries and local communities.

Often, climate change and forests protection action are weakened by the limited capacities of policy makers and international organizations to transmit, in a visual way, the significance and urgency of climate action in a clear and appropriate way to the broader range of stakeholders and to the public. For these reasons, UN-REDD is looking for a Multimedia graphic designer with experience in data storytelling to support the UN-REDD in the development of communication and knowledge products while maintaining a coherent branding for UNEP and UNEP initiatives and projects.

The consultant will be supervised by the Regional Coordinator for the UN-REDD Programme for UNEP Latin America and Caribbean Office and will work from home.

Qualifications/special skills- Bachelor’s degree in the areas of visual communication, graphic design or similar is required. - At least 5 years of experience working on graphic design projects, illustration, advertising is required. - Experience in Data Visualization and data storytelling is required. - Experience in synthetizing complex information into simple and clear factsheets is required. - A clear, innovative, and mature style of design, demonstrating an understanding of the communication requirements of a UN agency is desirable. - Basic knowledge of data visualization software’s and languages (e.g. Tableau, Qlik. Python, JavaScript etc.) is desirable. - Experience working with deforestation or climate change related topics is desirable. - Technical and practical mastery in graphic design softwares such as Adobe Illustrator, In-Design and Photoshop. Editing tools knowledge for videos is desirable. After Effects is highly desirable. WACOM CINTIQ is desirable.

Languages- Fluent in English and Spanish is required. - Confident level of written and spoken Portuguese is desirable.
