This is a UNV International Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Specialist contracts.

Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 25 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.

Description of task

Under the Supervision of Chief Distribution/MovCon Section or his designated representative, the responsibilities will include:

  • Providing multi-modal support at Detachments for the movement of passengers and cargo on UN air and surface transportation assets;
  • Planning, prioritizing, coordinating and monitoring all movement tasks and responsibilities in the area of operation;
  • Coordinating with the government authorities on all passenger immigration and customs formalities required;
  • Analysing the availability of and most cost-effective transportation assets to support passenger and cargo movements in the mission;
  • Ensuring safe, efficient and economical movement support is provided to meet operational and administrative requirements of the mission;
  • Ensuring all safety procedures on UN and contracted assets are maintained and any observed hazards reported and filed for appropriate action;
  • Ensuring Dangerous Goods are transported in accordance with International Airline Transport Association Dangerous Goods Regulations;
  • Planning and coordinating troop deployments and rotations of military contingents;
  • Receiving and processing all passenger and cargo booking requests;
  • Preparing accurate passenger and cargo manifests in accordance with entitlements and ensuring loading on board the aircraft is in accordance with prevailing aviation safety standards;
  • Analysing and providing weekly and monthly Detachment statistics and reports to supervisors;
  • Ensuring proper filing and safe custody of all documents;
  • Briefing passengers on airfield regulations and international aviation safety requirements;
  • Conducting passenger check-in and weighing/measuring of cargo and luggage;
  • Ensuring that only authorized personnel are manifested and boarded on the aircraft;
  • Ensuring all manifests are accurate and complete;
  • Ensuring all luggage and cargo are delivered to consignees;
  • Coordinating flights in the sector with Air Operations Office and liaising with the aircraft’s crew to ensure proper loading of passengers and cargo including handover of manifests and other documents;
  • Arranging the movement of inbound and outbound cargo via all applicable modes of transport (air, sea, road and rail);
  • Arranging customs clearance and related documentation;
  • Ensuring cargo, including Dangerous Cargo, is loaded in accordance with International Regulations;
  • Monitoring and ensuring delivery of cargo and communicating shipping details to all concerned parties;
  • International training, mentoring and capacity building of national colleagues;Managing day to day, including the setup of, operations and supervising personnel in area of operations;
  • Performing any other related functions as requested by the supervisor.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Secondary education

Education - Additional Comments:

Type of Degree: Completion of High School Diploma and a technical qualification in Air Transportation or Movement Control.

Required experience:

60 Months

Experience remark:

Minimum of 5 years relevant working experience in Air Transport or Movement Control functions.

Language skills:

  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent

Area of expertise:

Multimodal transport, travel and dispatch management and Movement Control (MOVCON)

Area of expertise details:

  • Computer skills: Solid computer skills, including full proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word etc) and other IT applications and office technology equipment;
  • Other skills/experience and qualifications:
    • Experience in a remote location performing day to day operations, including the supervision of personnel, with a large international body an advantage;
    • Have affinity with or interest in humanitarian relief, post-conflict situations, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System;
    • Sound security awareness.
