MOVCON Assistant
Contract
This is a UNV International Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Specialist contracts.
Description of task
Under the direct supervision of Chief MovCon and Senior Movcon Officer, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:
- Supervise MovCon operations for cargo movements.
- Exercise control and ensure that movement planning, evaluation, and assessment are accurately done.
- Identify the most cost-efficient and operationally effective plan for each mode of transport requirement within operational risk management and mitigation parameters (including dangerous goods requiring special handling).
- Coordinate day-to-day support of all movement operations of pax and cargo.
- Coordinate transportation of military and civilian police personnel by the most cost-effective and efficient means in terms of safety and timeliness during rotations, deployments, and repatriations.
- Monitor the contract compliance of operators and units and evaluate their performances on a periodic basis.
- Coordinate required transportation activities with the Aviation and Transport Units/Sections and/or commercial transportation service providers.
- Liaise with other UN units/sections, non-government and government organizations, and intergovernmental agencies on immigration and customs matters.
- Supervise AMISOM personnel performing flight check-in operations
- Administer, mentor, and manage the MovCon team in the hub composed of AMISOM.
- Coordination with the Aviation section to ensure the efficient utilization of air assets.
- Oversee the preparation of various MovCon reports, guidelines, policies, procedures, briefings, and other communications.
- Analyze projected passenger and cargo flows in order to estimate required resources.
- Record statistical data on the movement of passengers and cargo (including dangerous goods requiring special handling).
- Brief passengers on schedules, routes, timing, and safety requirements.
- Monitor check-in and check-out activities for outgoing and incoming passengers and cargo.
- Maintain the electronic databases in accordance with the established procedures and deadlines.
- Ensure collection of Data for the cost recovery unit of NON-UN passengers and cargo moved on UNSOS flights.
- Perform any other duties as required.
Educational additional comments
A high school or equivalent diploma is required. Technical or vocational certificate in movement control, multi-modal transportation, airline operations, logistics management or a related field is desirable
Experience remark
At least 3 years of progressively responsible experience in movement control, freight forwarding, airline operations, logistics management or a related field. Experience in the use of IATA rules and procedures for the transportation of dangerous
Language skills
