The United Nations Environment Programme is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. UNEP’s mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action.

UNEP's Industry Economy and Division helps economic decision-makers change the business environment by creating platforms for dialogue and cooperation, devising innovative policy options, running pilot projects, and using market forces to bring about change. The Division has three branches: Chemicals and Health; Energy and Climate, and Resources and Markets and is coordinated through Division Office, headed by the D 1 Deputy Director, and staffed by a P4 Coordination Officer, a P3 Information Officer, a P2 Monitoring and Evaluation Associate, and 2 General Staff. The incumbent will work under the overall supervision of the Economy Division Deputy Director, and daily guidance of the Coordination Officer and the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer.

UNEP’s technical Divisions and Regional Offices will jointly deliver against the currently established UNEP Medium-Term Strategy (MTS) (https://www.unep.org/resources/policy-and-strategy/people-and-planet-unep-strategy-2022-2025). The UNEP MTS will be implemented on the basis of a specific Delivery Model, which encompasses aspects related to project management, design and implementation. In order to inform and guide delivery on the MTS, the Division has set up provisional dashboards and databases as strategic management tools to track the current inventory of projects, as well as future projects and their possible funding sources and mechanisms. The incumbent will be required to:

Output 1: Manage and improve the existing dashboards and databases.

Tasks/Activities:

-Manage and curate the currently existing dashboards and project databases and keep them updated by means of consistent liaison with the Division programme managers as well as UNEP Regional Offices’ focal points, particularly with a view to-wards managing an expanded portfolio of projects under the new Delivery Model; -Validate information and ensure relevance, completeness, and accuracy of data. -Extract, analyze and provide timely information to senior management as may be re-quired, including at short notice. -Support and participate in quarterly or semesterly portfolio reviews, focusing on portfolio health, results and impacts.

Output 2: Support PIMS/PIMS+ (QBR) compliance and the transition to IPMR

UNEP is transitioning towards the adoption of the UMOJA Integrated Planning, Management and Reporting (IPMR) solution, which integrates several modules such as Strategic Management, Budget Formulation and Project System, and Monitoring Performance.

IPMR utilizes the results-based management methodology, enabling clear linkages between resources and results frameworks, and improved management of day-to-day UN operations, including management of substantive and programmatic activities in addition to administrative processes. The incumbent will be required to:

Tasks/Activities:

(I) PIMS:

-Support the P2 Monitoring and Evaluation Associate in ensuring that teams upload in the system accurate data on PIMS by the established deadlines by: -Remind teams of impending deadlines. -Verifying data accuracy and completeness by performing regular quality control. -Acting as a helpdesk to support team members, and possibly some new staff, in reporting on PIMS (from both a technical and substantive perspective). -Extract, analyze and provide timely information to senior management as may be re-quired, including at short notice.

(II) PIMS+/QBR:

-Review the joint current set of recommendations developed by Economy/Ecosystems Divisions task teams to improve Divisional compliance with the PIMS+ requirements. -Work with divisional team to ensure correct uploading of project data as needed into PIMS+, particularly for GEF and GCF portfolios. -Extract, analyze and provide timely information to senior management as may be required, including at short notice.

(III) IPMR

-Support the Division (Division Office and Administration) in preparing for the corporate transition; -Coordinate and perform Monitoring/Reporting functions in IPMR as soon as relevant functions have been activated at the corporate level.

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to: •Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day). •Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country. •Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities. •Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc. •Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly arrived UN Volunteers. •Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

Results/Expected Outputs

· The quality of Industry and Economy Division reporting on PIMS and PIMS+/QBR is im-proved and meets corporate standards; · Teams are supported in their efforts to comply with corporate requirements; · Senior Management has ready access to timely information and performance analyses, including via quarterly or semesterly portfolio reviews including regional offices; · The transition to PIMR is adequately supported.

More than 26% of Kenya’s people live below the international poverty line of $1 per day. Kenya’s main food crops are “maize, wheat, pulses, roots and tubers.” (FAO).

Nairobi is a modern metropolitan city where most basic goods and services, health facilities, public transport, telecommunication and banking services and educational facilities are readily available. The city is widely connected through its main airport, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and the smaller Wilson Airport. Air transport is also available to many up-country destinations. The city is home to some 3,000 UN personnel mainly attributed to the fact that it serves as the headquarters for both the UN HABITAT and UNEP.

The socio-economic and cultural background of the immediate society the UNV would be living and working in is diverse and prevailing security conditions at the place of assignment is modest. The topographic and climatic features of the assignment location is highland cool and warm tropical climate.
