This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

Description of task

Under the overall supervision and guidance of FAO Representative in Myanmar, direct supervision of Emergency and Rehabilitation Coordinator, in close cooperation with other international and national staff, the National Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Officer shall undertake the following tasks:

  • Assist the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer in the design of M&E tools for monitoring of ongoing projects
  • Discuss with Implementing Partners (IPs) M&E tools;
  • Contribute in training field based M&E staff as well as IP M&E staff in data collection and analysis related to project activities;
  • Assist in facilitating monitoring of project activities (Verification and validation of field data collection, Data cleaning, and draft data analysis) ;
  • Assist the Senior M/E Officer in monitoring project’s activities throughout implementation phase and ensure delivery of results as outlined in the project document;
  • Participate in the compilation and data analysis collected for the purpose of monitoring and produce monitoring reports for each project;
  • Provide brief updates on project M&E to the Emergency Coordinator and Emergency Team as required;
  • Assist in drafting progress reports and other relevant documents;
  • Contribute to the elaboration of project proposals needed for emergency assistance;
  • Assist in the design of assessments relating to food security, agriculture and livelihoods;
  • Perform any other relevant works/duties as and when required;

Educational additional comments

  • A university degree in agriculture environmental science, social sciences, statistics, information management or other related fields would be an asset;

Experience remark

minimum 3 years of experience in M&E

Language skills

  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • Burmese(Mandatory), Level - Fluent

Area of expertise details

  • 3-5 years experience in monitoring and evaluation of agriculture, livestock and fisheries/aquaculture related projects.
  • Good experience in implementing emergency projects with field experience in Myanmar;
  • A university degree in agriculture environmental science, social sciences, statistics, information management or other related fields would be an asset;
  • Fluency in Myanmar and excellent working knowledge of English is preferable;
  • High sense of responsibility, willingness to take initiative, excellent communication skills and team spirit are important assets;
  • Experience in formulating surveys, data collection, data analysis and training preferred;
  • Affinity with the mandate and role of the FAO and United Nations;
  • Master office software packages;
  • Knowledge of GIS software would be an asset;
  • Must be familiar with operations under complex and sensitive contexts and eager to work with all communities.
