Contract

This is a UNV International Youth contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Youth contracts.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are the foundation of the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, a ‘blueprint to achieve a better and a more sustainable future for all’ by 2030. The Agenda is a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that by 2030 all people enjoy peace and prosperity.

Youth empowerment is essential to meet the 2030 Agenda. The Asia-Pacific region is home to more than 600 million youth aged 15-24 years. Countries in the Asia-Pacific region are at different stages of demographic transition, some with ageing populations and others with a youth bulge, each of which presents a unique set of challenges and opportunities. Many young people face discrimination due to ethnicity, race, gender, age, disability, sexual orientation, and many other factors, or a combination of these. Young people who find themselves at the intersection of these factors are left furthest behind.

UNDP’s Youth Empowerment Portfolio in Asia and the Pacific (YEP-AP) aims to invest in and empower young people across the region, to accelerate the implementation of SDGs. YEP-AP believes that youth can be leaders, who create inclusive and equitable societies free of discrimination. They can make a positive difference by taking on the challenges through social innovation, mobilizing their peers and communities, and creating adaptive and innovative solutions.

The portfolio promotes and advances youth empowerment in the following focus areas (referred to as pillars): (1) Youth Entrepreneurship, (2) Youth and Climate Action, (3) 21st Century and Digital Skills, (4) Youth Civic Engagement and Political Participation. The portfolio also includes specific interventions targeting marginalised youth groups and national stakeholders to ensure no youth is left behind.

The UN Youth Volunteer, Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Associate, will work as part of UNDP’s regional Youth Team to support monitoring, evaluation and learning activities of the regional Youth Empowerment Portfolio in Asi and the Pacific.

Under the direct supervision of Programme Specialist, Civil Society and Youth, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

Supports the YEP-AP project team in collecting and analyzing data for reporting and learning purposes,

Assists in reviewing activity reports and providing support and feedback to the programmatic teams in M&E related tasks;

Assists in the preparations of the mid-term review of the Regional Youth Empowerment portfolio;

Contributes to the development of the monitoring frameworks and tools for new activities and initiatives implemented under the Youth Empowerment Portfolio;

Supports learning and capacity building activities related to M&E and Impact Measurement;

Depending on the interest and availability of the UN Youth Volunteer, she/he will have the opportunity to help review research outputs produced by the Youth

Thailand is located in Southeast Asia. The climate is tropical, with the monsoon season running from May/June through October/November. Bangkok is the capital of Thailand, and it is also the most populated city in the country. It is located in the Chao Phraya River delta in the central part of the country. Bangkok has an estimated population of 8.75 million as of 2017 (13% of Thailand’s total population), based on data from the 2010 census. Over the past decades, Bangkok has grown rapidly with little urban planning or regulation. This has led to traffic congestion and air pollution, and there is frequent flooding of streets during the rainy season in the City’s low-lying areas.

The cost of living in Thailand is relatively low, as compared to many other capitals in Southeast Asia. Housing is widely available in various sizes and at various price points. Private healthcare in Thailand is of excellent standard, and there are numerous top hospitals in Bangkok, which fall far below countries like the US in terms of price. There are numerous high-quality international schools available in Bangkok, with English as the language of instruction. Bangkok has different public transportation options, including the BTS Skytrain and MRT Underground, metered taxis, mobile-based ride-hailing services (Grab, All Thai Taxi, etc.), tuk tuks, motorbike taxis, buses and boats.
