Timely and reliable information is crucial for UN leadership to make informed decisions about humanitarian, development, political, economic and cultural trends across Africa. To enhance situational awareness, DCO-Africa seeks an Online Volunteer to compile concise, high-quality morning headlines twice a week.

These updates will provide a snapshot of critical developments from trusted news sources, think tanks, and UN reports, helping ensure that the UN system remains responsive to emerging trends and challenges.

To track, compile, and summarize key humanitarian, development, political, and economic headlines from across Africa, providing concise, well-structured updates twice a week to inform UN stakeholders and partners.

Deliverables

• Morning Headlines Reports (2 per week on Tuesday and Wednesday morning EAT time) o A curated and balanced summary of key humanitarian, development, political, economic and cultural news from Africa. o Each report will highlight the most significant developments across the continent. o Sources include international, regional, and national media, UN reports, and policy briefings. o Headlines must be fact-checked, concise, and categorized by theme or subregion.

Tasks & Responsibilities

News Monitoring & Research • Track relevant media outlets, think tanks, UN agencies, and government sources to identify significant news across Africa. • Focus on humanitarian, development, political, economic and cultural trends and emerging risks. • Select the most relevant, impactful stories for UN stakeholders.

Content Curation & Compilation • Summarize key developments in a structured, concise, and easy-to-read format. • Categorize news by theme or subregion to ensure clarity and quick reading. • Ensure all information is accurate, balanced, and sourced from credible outlets, including links.

Report Production & Distribution • Prepare and deliver two morning headline reports per week (Tuesday and Wednesday morning EAT time). • Ensure reports are formatted for quick consumption by UN officials and partners. • Respond to feedback and refine the format as needed.

Quality Control & Fact-Checking • Cross-check sources to verify accuracy and avoid misinformation. • Ensure reports reflect a diversity of perspectives and reliable information.
