STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Secondary school education in additional Degree in Agriculture, Rural development, Agribusiness or related fields can be an asset.

JOB PURPOSE

The World Food Programme (WFP) of the United Nations is the largest humanitarian organization engaged in the global effort to achieve Zero Hunger worldwide. In Mozambique, WFP’s Country Strategic Plan (CSP) 2017-2021 supports the national Government’s commitment to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SGD 2: end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture and SDG 17: partnership strengthening among sectors. Through implementation of its Country Strategic Plan 2017-2021, WFP in Mozambique aims to increase smallholder productivity and income (Strategic Result 3 of the CSP and SDG target 2.3) and to enhance livelihoods of targeted smallholder farmers in northern and central Mozambique (Strategic Outcome 5 of the CSP). This will be achieved through two outputs: (i) targeted smallholder farmers (SHF) benefit from WFP value chain support to improve access to profitable markets and increase their incomes; and (ii) targeted smallholder farmer households benefit from improved knowledge in food conservation including and processing, nutrition, care practices and healthy diets to improve their nutrition status.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  1. Provide extensive support to project’s implementation in the areas of operation;
  2. Be the Liaison person between participant stakeholders (farmers, buyers, agrodealers, district authorities, etc.) and WFP;
  3. Provide technical support to the smallholder farmers in agricultural marketing and use VFM platform to reach the market.
  4. In close collaboration with district authorities and cooperating partners mobilize, engage and register farmers to ensure participation in and adherence to the project;
  5. Ensure the delivery of relevant training to the participant farmers and other stakeholders;
  6. Develop and update a list of traders with interest to procure agricultural products in local market;
  7. Conduct regular monitoring visits to project sites, and collect, monitor and evaluate data in-formation to ensure that the objectives and activities of WFP are being met and that this is re-ported on a regular basis using the monitoring report templates;
  8. Assist the SO on data collection from the cooperating partners and District Authorities and analysis on monthly basis;
  9. Submit monthly performance reports to SO and recommendations for improved performance on the programme implementation;
  10. Maintaining and updating of records and databases and financial management;

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

These jobs are found primarily in WFP Field based Offices, and job holders typically report to Programme Policy Officer or Programme Associate. The reporting lines may change depending on the size of the office. At this level work is carried out under minimum supervision. Job holders are expected to produce organised and accurate technical work and reports. They may provide guidance on standard practices to other staff and counterparts in their area of work.

DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE

  • At least 2 years of experience field work with community engagement, smallholder farmers, agricultural production;
  • Experience in smallholder farmers marketing support is desirable;
  • Other development programme/project experience Mandatory;
  • Agro-industry and agricultural marketing Optional.
