Job Description

BACKGROUND: Founded in 1933, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) is a leading, non-sectarian, non-profit organization providing emergency relief, protection, rehabilitation assistance, resettlement services, and advocacy for refugees and victims of oppression or violent conflict. Domestically, our 26 offices across the U.S. ensure new arrivals have food, shelter, and clothing, and work with refugees to help them gain self-sufficiency.

The Monitoring and Compliance (M&C) team sits within the Resettlement, Asylum, and Integration (RAI) Headquarters department of the IRC and manages both donor and internal monitoring and evaluation activity for major programming that serves refugees, asylum seekers, and other types of newcomers.

SCOPE OF INTERN WORK: With oversight from the Senior Program Officer, Monitoring and Compliance, the M&C Intern will play a central role in data and administrative management within the team. They will assist with entering historical monitoring data into IRC internal databases, providing administrative support in monitoring activities, and organizing monitoring files. This position reports to the Senior Program Officer, Monitoring and Compliance.

COMMITMENT: 5-6 months starting in October 2023, 15-20 hours per week

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Enter historical monitoring data for past monitoring visits into the IRC database “Efforts to Outcomes” (ETO).

• Analyze historic monitoring data to assist in trend identification.

• Review and organize monitoring digital storage files.

• Support preparation of internal monitoring activities

• Conduct casefile reviews to determine compliance with program guidelines.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

1. The intern will gain professional experience in monitoring and evaluation activity.

2. The intern will deepen understanding of monitoring and evaluation topics, donor and internal requirements to program outcomes, and best practices related to planning and implementing data-driven, evidence-based programs.

3. The intern will gain experience with data entry and analysis.

4. The internal will gain a deep understanding of federally funded programs including Reception and Placement, Matching Grant, and preferred Communities

REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor's degree in social work or related field of study preferred.

• Attention to detail and accuracy in work product.

• Strong command of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook), especially MS Excel; ability to use the internet and other digital tools for data entry, research, and problem-solving purposes.

• Demonstrated success working and communicating effectively in a multicultural environment.

This is an unpaid internship position. No financial compensation, including compensation for relocation, is available.
