This is a UNV International Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Specialist contracts.

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of the Child Protection Specialist (CPiE), the International UN Volunteer will deal with all matters related to mine risk education in Myanmar. The International UNV will undertake the following tasks:

1. Participate in relevant coordination and inter-agency Mine Risk Working Group meetings at both national and sub-national levels, contributing to the agenda, minutes, documents, and support follow up to action points through timely and quality communications;

2. Ensure timely and quality contributions on issues related to Mine Action to the national PWG, CPWG and CTFMR;

3. Monitor trends and provide inputs to the explosive ordinance risk education (EORE) and awareness-raising programmes and ensure that emergency preparedness planning is conducted and/or updated regularly to anticipate new risks and ensure timely and appropriate child protection response;

4. Support the development, implementation and monitoring and reporting of partnerships with civil society, community-based and child protection mechanisms in the field to ensure their participation in the implementation of EORE programmes;

5. Undertake field visits to provide technical support to field offices and partners through the rolling out of tools and resources, supporting the execution of their action plans, and assisting in programming;

6. Ensure that UNICEF child protection section is kept informed of situations having an impact on child protection, maintain an overview of the situation and identify crucial gaps in service provision that require addressing;

7. Facilitate trainings and capacity building activities for relevant beneficiaries, including NGO partners in collaboration with field offices;

8. Contribute to ensuring dissemination of informative materials in the most affected areas;

9. Ensure regular communications with the global MRE network and support when possible;

10. Draft budgets and project proposals for new projects as required;

11. Draft donor reports, fundraising proposals, ad-hoc reports, briefing papers, presentations and other documents as required;

12. Provide programme information to partner agencies, non-governmental organizations, contractors and UN agencies.

Educational additional comments

Additional Comments: Master’s Degree or equivalent Advanced Degree in international affairs/development, economics, governance related, public policy/administration, human rights, or other related field.

A first level University degree (Bachelors Degree or equivalent) in a related field with an additional two (2) years of practical and relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience remark

A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience working in the area of mine risk education or mine action

Experience working in complex emergency settings is an asset; experience in inter-agency mine action coordination is an added advantage; Experience in project management support specifically in mine action related activities is an asset.
