Result of Service A consultant is required to provide support to UNEP’s International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO) workstreams, in particular:

  • Provide support to the implementation workstream o Lead the design and compilation of slides, provide research and information to inform speaking points o Draft agendas, memos, and briefs, ensuring content is tailored for the relevant audience o Maintain trackers, contact lists, and other organizations tools for the methane training series o Provide logistical support for training and event organization, including liaising with vendors, translation services, etc. as needed o Support the implementation of MARS component 2, including maintaining contact lists, assisting in the development of templates, and other actions as requested

  • Provide support to the science workstream o Design, organize, and execute a webinar series on methane emissions, including identifying potential speakers and topics, compiling an invite list and distributing invitations, hosting the platform, and tracking performance of events o Conduct research supporting measurement studies, including of published papers to extract relevant information and data o Support the contracting of institutes and universities for partnership on scientific studies o Attend science meetings as requested and compile summaries for distribution

  • Provide support to the OGMP 2.0 investor initiative o Plan and organize meetings with partners, identify and track action items o Liaise with OGMP technical team to provide feedback and guidance on investor priorities/engagement opportunities

  • Oversee the preparation of materials for UNEP internal reporting, donor reporting, and reporting within IMEO’s governance structure

    Duties and Responsibilities UN Environment Programme (Energy and Climate Branch) implements the International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO), a data-driven, action-focused UNEP initiative that takes an innovative approach to address the methane emissions problem by collecting, integrating, and reconciling data from different sources, including scientific measurement studies, satellites, rigorous industry reporting.

    Qualifications/special skills Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in environmental or energy studies and/or policy, or a related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

  • Basic familiarity with the oil and gas sector, particularly related to major emissions sources
  • Experience leading research projects and compiling and presenting results in a clear, action-oriented manner
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills; strong presentation skills preferred

    Languages Fluency of English is required for this position. Knowledge of other UN language is an advantage.

    Additional Information Desired competencies include:

- Familiarity with methane emissions, in particular from the fossil fuel sector - Ability to summarize and translate information for a variety of audiences. - Excellent written and oral communication skills. - Ability to work independently and support a multi-disciplinary team, using independent judgment to plan, prioritize and organize a diverse workload in a fast-paced environment. - Ability to work with colleagues and partners of varied backgrounds and experience.
