Bangladesh is poised to capitalize on the rapid growth of freelancing and remote work, driven by its large youth population and increasing internet penetration. As the global labor market transforms with digitalization, freelancing and remote work are becoming mainstream career paths. However, many young people and homemakers, especially in underserved areas, lack access to the necessary training, mentorship, and networks to succeed in this new economy.
WorkWave, an initiative by Futurenation under UNDP Bangladesh, aims to bridge this gap by equipping participants with essential digital skills, providing hands-on mentorship, and connecting them with earning opportunities online.
Through the WorkWave Freelance Mentorship Program, we aim to empower the youth aged 16+ and the homemakers across both urban and rural Bangladesh with trending, job-ready digital skills in areas such as Digital Marketing, Graphic Design, Data Entry, Video Editing, Website Development, and Content Writing. Mentors will play a key role in this initiative by guiding mentees through freelancing platform onboarding, helping them build portfolios, write proposals, and apply for remote job opportunities.
To that end, we are seeking to engage expert and qualified Online Volunteers to take the mentorship role. The Online Volunteers Mentors will provide personalized mentorship through online sessions and webinars, creating a supportive environment for skill development and real-time job placement guidance. The goal is not only to equip participants with technical skills but also to foster a sustainable, scalable freelancing ecosystem across Bangladesh, contributing to the country’s digital economy and ensuring that no one is left behind in the workforce revolution.
WorkWave’s mission aligned with the Sustainable Development Goal, SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth). By empowering individuals with digital skills and connecting them to freelancing opportunities, WorkWave helps drive economic prosperity and promotes inclusion for all, particularly women and youth, in Bangladesh's digital transformation journey.
We are looking for 100 Online Volunteers to take mentorship role for the WorkWave Mentorship Program. The selected and qualified Online Volunteers Mentors will support mentees in gaining expertise in digital skills. To this end, the Online Volunteers will work closely with the Futurenation Team to complete the following tasks:
• Curriculum Development and Preparation: Collaborate in refining the curriculum and prepare necessary resources, materials, and assessment tools. • Conduct Weekly Mentorship Sessions: Hold weekly 4-5 hours of online mentorship sessions, track mentee progress, and provide personalized guidance and support. • Platform Onboarding: Assist and motivate mentees to onboard onto freelancing and remote job platforms (profile creation, project bidding, and job applications). • Webinars and Group Engagement: Lead webinars or group discussions on skill-related topics, providing valuable insights and practical tips. • Feedback and Continuous Improvement: Offer constructive feedback and suggest improvements for future mentorship sessions.
The selected Online Volunteers will be provided with background information for the mentorship program, but they will be responsible for preparing the materials required for their sessions and webinars. They will not be asked to develop content outside of their assigned tasks.
• Candidates should have a strong background in any of the digital skills among Digital Marketing, Graphic Design, Data Entry, Data Analysis and Visualization, Video Editing, Website Development, and Content Writing. • Experience in freelancing platforms (such as Fiverr, Upwork, Freelancer.com) and remote job opportunities is highly desirable. • Candidates should have practical experience in mentoring, teaching, or conducting webinars. • Relevant certifications or hands-on experience in any of the mentioned skill areas are preferred.
