Organizational Setting

FAO's Subregional Office for Southern Africa (FAO-SFS) is responsible for developing, promoting, overseeing and implementing agreed strategies for addressing subregional food, agriculture and rural development priorities. It develops and maintains relations with subregion-wide institutions including Regional Economic Integration Organizations (REIOs). It assists the FAO Representations (FAORs) in the subregion with addressing subregional food security, agriculture and rural development issues at country level. The Subregional Office is a subsidiary of FAO’s Regional Office for Africa The FAO Subregional Office is organising the 16th Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) meeting from the 29th of November to the 1st of December 2022. The meeting will share information, discuss achievements, challenges and potential solutions for improved delivery of FAO’s agenda and SFS work plan for 2023-2024. The meeting also creates opportunity to enhanced collaboration and team cohesion for joint planning and mutual accountability. FAO is looking for a highly qualified and experienced consultant to facilitate the MDT meeting.

Reporting Lines

With overall guidance from the Sub regional Coordinator for Southern Africa (SRC) and under the direct supervision of the MDT Meeting Task Force chairperson, the Consultant will perform the duties indicated below.

Technical Focus

Facilitating high level and technical meetings/workshops supporting FAO’s work in Africa and particularly Southern Africa. , Tasks and responsibilities:

▪ Participate in the SFS Technical preparatory meeting to be briefed on the main purpose, agenda and topics related to the meeting, and prepare/design facilitation process of the meeting; ▪ Review the draft concept note and schedule and make the necessary improvements ▪ Review relevant and strategic FAO documents and previous MDT reports for better understanding the assignment and effective facilitation ▪ Prepare a concept note informed by the FAO documents and previous MDT reports of how you would like to facilitate the hybrid meeting; ▪ Facilitate all sessions of the 16th FAO SFS Multi-Disciplinary Meeting to be held as a hybrid event (both virtual and physical) in Victoria Falls 29 Nov to 1 December 2022; ▪ Guide group work discussions through participatory approach among meeting participants; ▪ Provide daily inputs in liaison with the SFS MDT Taskforce team to the preparation of the day’s discussion; ▪ Facilitate discussions and deliberations during the meeting days ▪ Ensure active participation of all stakeholders in the meeting ▪ Review and finalize the draft report from rapporteurs, including the main issues discussed , key priorities and action points from the meeting to inform future design and implementation of sub regional programmes; ▪ Undertake meeting evaluation and propose recommendations for improvement in future ▪ Other relevant tasks relevant to meeting facilitation ▪ Perform any other related tasks as requested. ▪

Minimum Requirements

▪ University degree in social sciences or other related areas; ▪ At least ten years working experience in facilitating meetings and workshops for international organizations; ▪ Working knowledge (level C) of English and limited knowledge (level B) of one of the other FAO languages (French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Russian) for Consultants. Working knowledge of English for PSA.SBS
