The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is an International non-governmental organisation, which promotes and supports durable solutions to the problems faced by refugees and internally displaced people all over the world. Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (HDP) has recently been established as one of DRC’s five core sectors. The sector covers what has until now mainly been the programmatic focus of DRC’s technical unit Danish Demining Group. HDP additionally covers the sub-sectors of Mine Action, Weapons and Ammunitions Management (WAM), Conflict Management, and Security Governance.

DRC is looking for a Medical Coordinator to support ongoing humanitarian mine clearance projects in Ivankiv/Ichnia.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

DRC HDP Medical Coordinator shall:

  • To provide oversight of all medical issues.
  • Responsible for the medical training, daily operational planning and implementation.
  • The MC shall ensure that the teams Paramedic is adequately equipped and trained as by DRC HDP SOP Medical Support in Mine Action.
  • Ensure that the Paramedics are able to carry out their duties in a professional manner.
  • MC shall ensure that all medical staff is qualified to carry out their duties in support of clearance operations within the definition of qualified personnel.
  • Maintain reporting mechanisms and produce proper records and reports on all aspects of medical activities according to the requirements of the DRC HDP SOP Medical Support in Mine Action.
  • To conduct regular casualty evacuation (CASEVAC) exercises together with the TA and DS.
  • To provide direction and supervision to DRC HDP personnel with regards to health issues.
  • To carry out regular observation visits to the DRC HDP medical teams deployed in support of clearances activities.
  • Ensure that the medical DRC HDP SOP Medical Support in Mine Action is always updated and is in accordance with the NMAA.
  • Coordination of all paramedics in coordination with Quality Management and Training Specialist and Operation Manager.
  • Support the OM if investigating accidents/incidents and compile relevant reports.
  • To ensure that the DRC HDP sickness data base is updated and the administration staff are updated on a daily basis of staff sickness.
  • Will monitor that staff sickness and inform the OM and HoP of irregularities.
  • To provide the mine action team Paramedics with up to date information on current medical techniques and procedures.

RIGHTS

DRC HDP Medical Coordinator is entitled:

  • To get acquainted with draft decisions of the organization’s management concerning his/her activity.
  • To submit for management consideration by proposals as to improvement of the work related to the responsibilities established by the present instruction, to submit remarks about the employees of the organization; to suggest ways to correct failures detected in the organization’s activity.
  • To request and receive either personally or by the demand of direct supervisor any information and documents necessary for the fulfilment of his/her professional responsibilities from the heads of the structural departments and specialists.
  • To request from the management of the organization any support in fulfilment of his/her professional responsibilities.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITY

DRC HDP Medical Coordinator is responsible:

  • For undue fulfilment or failure to fulfil his/her job duties stipulated by this job description, - within the Labor Law of Ukraine.
  • To comply with orders, directives, regulations governing the work of Medical Coordinator.
  • For the violation committed in the process of his/her professional activity, within the current administrative, criminal or civil law of Ukraine.
  • For pecuniary damage, within the current civil law and labor law of Ukraine.
  • Improper use of official powers granted, as well as their use for personal purposes.
  • For independently made decisions in the performance of their functional duties.

Experience and technical competencies:

  • High education in the field of "Medicine"
  • At least 2 years of relevant work experience.
  • Knowledge of current health care legislation and regulations.
  • Fluency in Russian and Ukrainian; Intermediate level of English
  • Confident user in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

We offer:

Contract length: 3 months with the possibility of extension based on a successful probation period and available funding
