Result of Service Organisation and delivery of the CCAC Science Dialogue on clean air, health and methane for the press, and development of a media package aimed at enhancing the awareness of journalists on climate and air quality issues and solutions.
Work Location Home-based
Expected duration 2 months
Duties and Responsibilities The Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) is a partnership of governments, intergovernmental organizations, and representatives of the private sector, the environmental community, and other members of civil society.
The CCAC is the only international body working on integrated climate and clean air solutions to reduce the rate of near-term warming. It focuses on fast action to reduce emissions of short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs) including methane, black carbon, hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) and tropospheric ozone.
United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) hosts the Secretariat at the Economy Division in Paris.
Cutting SLCP emissions is regarded as the fastest and most effective way to keep us under 1.5°C. Acting on black carbon and methane in key sectors could reduce projected global warming by 0.5°C by 2050, avoid millions of premature deaths from air pollution annually, prevent millions of tonnes of annual crop losses, and increase energy efficiency, among other additional benefits for human and planetary wellbeing.
There is a need to communicate the urgency of mitigating SLCPs to address air pollution and climate change to achieve multiple benefits for public health, food security and overall human and planetary wellbeing. Therefore the CCAC is organizing a dialogue between scientists and journalists and a media expert is needed for developing, organizing and delivering the event as well as provide a media package that can be used and distributed during the event.
Specific resonsibilities: - Prepare agenda for and provide feedback on concept note for the Science Dialogue on clean air, health and methane - Prepare a media kit/package for the Dialogue based on existing CCAC science - Assist with preparations for the Dialogue, including providing input on attendees, invitations, and materials - Serve as a resource person and facilitate a discussion in the Dialogue - Serve as a resource person on communicating climate and clean air messages to the media for policymakers - Prepare the event report with recommendations and follow up for all journalists attending the Dialogue
