Result of Service The incumbent will assist the Media Advisor at Communication Department, HQ Gaza.

Work Location HQ Gaza

Expected duration The duration of the consultancy is 6 months.

Duties and Responsibilities Within delegated authority and under the direct supervision of the Media Advisor at CD, the Media and Political Specialist will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Analyses information contained in communications and publications received from different sources; maintains up-to-date knowledge of events relating to political issues related to the UNRWA as well as the region while evaluating the results and impact of such various communications activities.

  • Provides communications advice, expertise, and operational support to UNRWA’s media advisor, on a range of public affairs issues, methods and approaches; develops strategic partnerships with key constituencies to elicit support for promotional objectives during various phases of an operation.

  • Assists senior officials with briefing notes, background papers and talking points related to UNRWA issues and communications.

  • Prepares summaries of articles from a wide variety of sources and draft various correspondence and sections of relevant reports.

  • Monitors political, socio-economic, and other politically relevant developments.

  • Systematically follows through and retrieves, highlights and compiles information from a wide variety of information sources; prepares input for the electronic database and the internet and co-operate with research institutes and organizations in collecting data.

    • Prepares various reports, presentations, tables, lists, charts, data sets, and/or diagrams for information to facilitate the in-depth analysis of the retrieved information by the supervisor and other users.
  • Researches, compiles, and presents basic information for use in preparing and producing communications issues.

  • Assists in formulating policy guidance on strategic communications and public information.

  • Assists in identifying and monitoring substantive aspect of the work of the Division in various regions/countries. Selects and evaluates a variety of documents, summarizes pertinent material, collects, and analyses data and prepares background materials for assessment papers, studies, briefs and reports.

Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications/special skills BA in Journalism or Political Science. At least five years of experience in related field.

Languages Excellent command of spoken and written English and Arabic.
