Overview

Assist in data collection and organization related to migration and environment.

You have:

  • Ongoing undergraduate or graduate studies in Environmental Sciences, Social Sciences, International Relations, Foreign Languages/Translation, Law, or related areas, from an accredited academic institution.
  • Fluency in Portuguese and working knowledge of English is required.
  • Knowledge in administrative and financial management, budget monitoring, cash management and internal control procedures is an advantage.
  • Knowledge in the field of migration is an advantage.
  • Knowledge in the usage of office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Spanish is desirable.

Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, inter-governmental and non-governmental partners. With 175 member states, a further 8 states holding observer status and offices in over 100 countries, IOM, the UN Migration Agency, is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants. Brazil is a Member State of IOM since 2004.

Context

Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission (CoM) and the MECR National Officer and direct supervision of the MECR Project Assistant in Brasília; the Intern will be responsible and accountable for the following:

Required Qualifications and Experience

EDUCATION

Ongoing undergraduate or graduate studies in Environmental Sciences, Social Sciences, International Relations, Foreign Languages/Translation, Law, or related areas, from an accredited academic institution.

EXPERIENCE

• Knowledge in administrative and financial management, budget monitoring, cash management and internal control procedures is an advantage. • Knowledge in the field of migration is an advantage. • Knowledge in the usage of office software packages (MS Word, Excel,etc.).

SKILLS

• Good organizational, time management and prioritizing skills. • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. • Ability to multitask and work under pressure to meet deadlines. • Ability to work with a team of colleagues from diverse cultures and professionals.

Languages

IOM’s official languages are English, French, and Spanish.

REQUIRED

For this position, fluency in Portuguese and working knowledge of English is required.

DESIRABLE

Spanish is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the collection and organization of data related to the Migration, Environment, Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction theme, contributing to the systematization of information and support for analysis. • Support text revision, editing and translation (Portuguese, Spanish, English) of documents relevant to the team. • Assist in organizing conferences, meetings, workshops, and other events related to migration and the environment. • Support administrative processes, such as service payments, procurement, and planning. • Support with tasks related to project development, reporting, monitoring and Knowledge Management. • Perform any other duties as needed.
