The Private Fundraising and Partnerships Division (PFP) is the division assigned to generate insights and strategies that enhance the fundraising, advocacy, and engagement support to the Independent National Committees and UNICEF’s Country Offices. This post is filling a crucial gap in synthesizing best-in-class marketing strategies with UNICEF’s systems and structures. By providing planning and administration leadership to the fundraising team, and by working as the senior focal point for procurement, finance, and planning teams, this role supports the timely and successful execution of critical campaigns. The role is based in Geneva and will provide marketing leadership to the brand & marketing team in charge of global campaigns in support of PFP. The successful candidate will work closely with PFP’s Finance and Administration Unit, including procurement, with HR, and with the PRIME team at PFP as well as planning and knowledge management focal points within PSFP. The successful candidate will also work with external partners to ensure the timely creation and management of LTAs and Contracts.

As the Marketing Specialist (Planning) you will play a pivotal role in developing and implementing strategic marketing and engagement plans to enhance brand awareness, engage supporters, and drive fundraising efforts. Your expertise in planning, analysis, budgets, and project management will be crucial in achieving our goals and maximizing UNICEF’s impact.

How can you make a difference?

1. Strategic Planning

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure timely development of comprehensive marketing strategies that align with UNICEF's overall objectives (e.g., PRIME, PR services, PSP).

Organize ways (e.g., workshops) and timing for other teams to input as necessary in the team’s overall plan. Ensure that input is captured and integrated efficiently in the team’s plan.

Translate organizational goals into actionable plans including establishing an 18-month planning cycle, and initiatives for the team.

Identify opportunities for innovation and/or improvements.

Identify opportunities for the team to input/align with NatComs regarding their annual planning and related budgets (e.g., JSP) and coordinate accordingly.

Develop key performance indicators (KPIs) for the brand marketing team.

Create/update tools (e.g., budget tracker, calendars, RACIs). Suggest the latest existing tools on the market for the team’s consideration.

2. Operational planning

Work with Change Management Focal Point on development of an internal communication plan for High-Value Marketing.

Ensure that the team is aware and can prepare accordingly for key PFP moments (e.g., FR/Comms meeting mid-September, other cross-divisional meetings/workshops).

Identify and coordinate the production of content for PFP internal communication (e.g., newsletter).

With the support of the team’s assistant, lead, update, and maintenance of the team’s

SharePoint pages.

3. Vendor and Partnership Management

Working with the procurement focal point and marketing team to establish flexible and long-term contracts with external vendors and agencies.

Manage processes to find and establish LTAS of suitable partners and ensure cost-effective agreements. Manage relationships with vendors, agencies, and other third-party stakeholders.

4. Data Analysis and Insights

Help ensure the team is using data-driven insights to inform marketing strategies.

Facilitate a process to analyze data on donor behavior, market trends, and campaign results for optimization of the strategy and campaigns.

Identify patterns, trends, and opportunities for optimization.

Develop and maintain performance measurement frameworks including a framework to monitor campaign performance and optimize results.

Define key metrics and indicators to track marketing effectiveness.

Establish reporting mechanisms to provide regular updates on campaign performance.

5. Budgeting and Resource Allocation

Work with the marketing team to develop and manage budgets for the team and to determine budget allocations for campaigns, events, and other marketing activities.

Manage the process for budget requests including alignment with other teams including preparedness of the team and vendors for periodic allocation cycles.

Monitor expenditures and ensure cost-effective resource allocation.

Evaluate ROI and financial performance of marketing activities.

Provide reports on budget performance and make recommendations for optimization.

Explore developmental capacity available at PFP (i.e., PFP HR budgets and capacity) and if any, organize training 'applications’ for the team.

6. Project Management and Collaboration

Coordinate cross-functional teams including the PSFP section, PFP, DGCA, and other divisions, as well as National Committees and Country Offices.

Working with the marketing team, define project goals, objectives, and deliverables.

Assign tasks, set timelines, and monitor progress to ensure timely project completion Foster collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

Build and maintain relationships with colleagues, agencies, and partners.

Collaborate with other teams within UNICEF to leverage synergies and share best

practices.

Ensure compliance with UNICEF policies and guidelines.

Adhere to ethical standards and legal requirements in all marketing activities.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Education:

  • An advanced university degree in one of the following fields is required; Fundraising/Philanthropy, Communication, Marketing, International Relations, International Development, Business, Social Sciences, or another relevant technical field.
  • Alternatively, a first-level university degree in combination with 2 years of additional work experience (10) may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in planning and project management in private sector or nonprofits is required. Experience in marketing is considered an asset.
  • An excellent understanding of UNICEF budget management experience is required.
  • Experience managing procurement services and contracts is an asset.
  • Experience in understanding data to create measurement frameworks is an asset.
  • Experience within the UN system, and familiarity with UNICEF programme working with multiple stakeholders to deliver planning, monitoring, and reporting is an asset.
  • Experience working with National Committee and Private Sector Fundraising (PSFR) country offices is an asset.
  • Experience with UN/UNICEF is an asset.

Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in English (Writing and communication skills) is required.
  • Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) is an asset.
