Contract

This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

UNICEF works in over 190 countries and territories to save children's lives, to defend their rights, and to help them fulfil their potential, from early childhood through adolescence. With over one third of South Asia´s 1.86 billion people being children, an immense future opportunity lies in South Asia.

On the global level, however, the economic downturn resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic will most likely further negatively impact official development assistance (ODA). In addition, regular Resources across UNICEF have dropped significantly while economic and regional environmental emergencies became prevalent. While successful fundraising needs to take place within an enabling environment and supporting functions, the region’s Country Offices are not equipped to effectively promote and drive private sector fundraising.

The South Asia Income Hub aims to strengthen UNICEF’s programmes in South Asia by building long term, sustainable and predictable income sources from private sector donors within the region while giving local people and companies the opportunity to partner with UNICEF and be actively part of a solution. Additionally, the income hub offers UNICEF a chance to be closer to potential opportunities in markets and to develop “fit for purpose” digital materials that resonate with the local audience.

This UNV position is part of a dynamic team within the Income Hub with the goal to set up, improve and take forward private sector fundraising in South Asia. In close coordination with the PFP Division and Country Offices, the Income Hub aims to create a new type of market entry structure to maximize resources while minimizing costs. Additionally, a limited selection of key fundraising strategies and accelerator will be prioritized to maximize returns. Furthermore, in acknowledgement of Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Pakistan as nascent fundraising markets, experimenting with different operating models and testing identified fundraising strategies in a more agile and cost-efficient way can provide an opportunity for UNICEF to engage new audience and increase UNICEF’s overall fundraising potential.

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision the UNV will:

• Assist the South Asia Income Hub and assigned Country Offices with research and analysis of fundraising related initiatives aligned with the strategies and the respective countries. • Support the team identifying initiatives, fundraising techniques and corporate alliance partners. • Coordinate marketing and communication efforts to contribute to the growth of fundraising and sales in the regions. • Share and communicate best practices and samples and providing tactical advice. • Support the section in priority projects, preparation of reviews and the exploration of new opportunity areas to extend fundraising in the SA region. • Assist with preparations (inc. power point presentations) for marketing, sales and fundraising meetings, workshops and Country office visits. • Execute ad hoc tasks as a member of the team and covers for the work of team colleagues in absences.

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:

• Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day). • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country. • Provide annual and end of assignment self-reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities. • Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc. • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers. • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

As an active UNICEF team member, efficient, timely, responsive, client-friendly and high-quality support rendered to UNICEF and its beneficiaries in the accomplishment of her/his functions, including:
