How can you make a difference?

Through the Markets & Supplier Financing Centre (MSFC), UNICEF Supply Division seeks to influence positively global and local market dynamics to ensure strategic supplies and services are fit for purpose, available, affordable, and produced by a competitive supply base to meet the evolving needs of children and young people in the SDG era.

While MSFC coordinates the efforts of influencing markets across UNICEF Supply Division, different procurement centres and units play a critical role in identifying and defining the approaches required. MSFC facilitates this body of work with market research and intelligence, data analysis, market communication information transparency, as well as supplier financing solutions.

Under the supervision of the Market Research Manager (Markets and Supplier Financing Centre), the incumbent will be expected to take a leading role in the development, design and maintenance of market information dashboards (such as the COVID-19 Vaccine Market Dashboard) and lead the issuance and further expansion the Market Insights Newsletter; the incumbent will also manage a team of two staff, take an active role in the Centre’s efforts towards enhancing local markets, strategically generate and provide market intelligence, and manage the existing monitoring tools for decision making, communication and to demonstrate results.

Summary of key functions/accountabilities:

  • Lead the development, design and maintenance of market information dashboards (such as the COVID-19 Vaccine Market Dashboard) and other internal dashboard that provide key stakeholders with value information and insights for strategic decision making. This comprises devising, evaluating and implement methods for collecting market intelligence for strategic products and services. This also includes monitoring data to identify any potential gaps, draw up recommendations and ensuring quality of information collected and provided to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Lead the issuance and further expansion the Market Insights Newsletter which is a public tool that provides subscribers with key insights on selected strategic markets. The incumbent provides direction of the topics to be further explored for upcoming publications, liaises with other Procurement Centres as required, and provides guidance from the inception and all the way to the dissemination efforts for each newsletter issuance.
  • Lead the completion of the Market Intelligence strategy, that outlines the role of MSFC as SD’s market intelligence/information provider, our vision, the tools and actions to ensure the strategy is carried out and successfully implemented.
  • Manage engagement with market intelligence service providers (suppliers) to ensure deliverables are met and they are in line with requirements.
  • The incumbent will also manage a team of two staff (consultants) and when required lead the recruitment process for such staff. This includes overseeing timelines, workloads, deliverables, performance, and motivation; it also includes creating job descriptions, disseminating vacancies, performing evaluations, and onboarding.
  • Take an active role in the Centre’s efforts towards enhancing local markets, by strategically generating and providing market intelligence. This includes 1) co-leading UNICEF’s SD Local Production Knowledge Group, 2) developing and enhancing information tools, 3) Conduct specific/targeted data analysis, 4) provide inputs to local production and/or manufacturing efforts as required
  • Be part of the secretariat for SD's Influencing Markets Advisory Group, which includes managing the Strategic Tender Calendar and related analysis to identify market intervention opportunities.
  • Develop market intelligence and/or market shaping content as required. This includes issuance of PPPx on Market Shaping (UNICEF internal platform), to ensure it remains valid and up to date.
  • Analyze and convert complex market data and findings into understandable tables, graphs, and written reports, including interpretation of findings.
  • Act as MSFC’s Web Focal Point

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Education:

A completed first-level university degree in business administration, economics, finance, or other related discipline is required.

Experience:

A minimum of two (2) years professional work experience in data management, market intelligence, market research and analysis, market dynamics, and market shaping is required.

Required experience/qualifications:

  • Good knowledge in MS Power BI
  • Strong skillset in Excel, including complex formulas and pivot tables.
  • Systems competent, preferable with knowledge of SAP
  • Strong presentation skills and experience with communicating analysis results visually and in writing to broad audiences.
  • Strong knowledge of planning and/or project management principles and practices

  • Working on data analytics and/or business intelligence, including proven experience in collecting, surveying, analysing and reporting complex data

Experience in the following areas is preferred:

  • Market Research relating to health, nutrition, education, sanitation and/or products used in resource-poor settings.
  • International business/commercial activities related to procurement and supply.
  • Work experience with UNICEF and/or coordinating with other UN / development agencies.

    Language:

  • Fluency in English is required

  • Proficiency of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) is an asset
