Contract

This is a UNV contract. More about UNV contracts.

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the United Nations system’s designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional level. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. Within UNEP’s Industry and Economy Division (IED), the Industry Innovation Branch (RMB) supports public policies and private-sector initiatives that advance efficient, clean and safe industrial production methods while creating the enabling conditions for sustainable consumption within value chains in high-impact sectors.

The Industry Innovation Branch hosts the Secretariat of the Green Growth Knowledge Partnership (GGKP), an initiative led by UNEP, UNIDO, the World Bank, the OECD and GGGI that aims at facilitating the sharing, promotion and application of green and circular economy best practices and impactful solutions, capitalizing on the knowledge and experience generated across the globe by those who are leading the transition through innovative policy instruments, business models and technologies, financing mechanisms and investments, as well as through international cooperation and technical assistance.

GGKP relies on its knowledge partners to fulfill its mandate and is in the process of renewing, expanding and further engaging this network with the objectives of intensifying international cooperation on green and circular economy knowledge exchange as well as of consolidating and diversifying the GGKP federated knowledge base. To achieve this, a reviewed, updated and enriched mapping of GGKP’s knowledge partners (institutional and technical) is required, together with updated engagement and commitment documents.

We are looking for 1 Online Volunteer with experience in desk research and a good understanding of green and circular economy, including in the context of industry and/or value chains. The Online Volunteer will support the review/identification, classification, and analysis of existing and potential new knowledge partners of GGKP (institutional and technical). The assignment will include the following responsibilities: • Review, update/clean and reorganize the list of existing GGKP knowledge partners (e.g. remove outdated information, and contacts, categorize knowledge partners as per established criteria and information provided by the responsible GGKP team members). • Mapping – Collect and integrate into the GGKP knowledge partners list information about missing institutional partners (e.g. UN entities, development banks, international NGOs) using established criteria and information provided by the responsible GGKP team members; research and identify between 40 and 60 potential new technical knowledge partners with highly credible expertise on green and circular economy at global level (scientific and technical institutes, business/industry associations, technical/expert networks, other NGOs), including with a sectoral focus, using established criteria and guidance from the responsible GGKP team members. • Classification – Organize the list of GGKP existing and potential new partners (institutional and technical) by type of organization, knowledge partner status, sectoral focus if any, type of knowledge resources, using categories established with the responsible GGKP team members. • Preparation of engagement / commitment documents for GGKP knowledge partners – review and update Terms of Reference and commitment documents for GGKP knowledge partners (institutional and technical), including GGKP’s vision statement, selection criteria for knowledge partners, roles and responsibilities, joint activities and benefits, using existing resources, inputs from responsible GGKP team members; develop a PPT presentation providing an overview of GGKP’s knowledge partners network. Deliverables: • Comprehensive list of existing GGKP knowledge partners with up-to-date information, organized as per established categories and criteria (Excel format). • Detailed list of potential new knowledge partners of GGKP, including institutional knowledge partners (based on initial list provided by the GGKP team) and technical partners (based on research and analysis, between 40 and 60), including short descriptions, and organized as per established categories and criteria (Excel format). • Revised Terms of Reference and commitment letter of GGKP knowledge partners (both institutional and technical) in the form of Word documents (4). • PPT presentation providing an overview of GGKP knowledge partners (1). The Online Volunteer will have the opportunity to contribute to strategic knowledge partnerships on green and circular economy within the United Nations system and gain experience in practical application through international organizations’ development support.
