what will you do?

  • Site Maintenance and Repair: Efficiently handle routine and ad hoc maintenance and repair of WFP country office and other premises, installing, maintaining, and repairing all kinds of electrical equipment and appliances, including wiring and distribution systems, to ensure a safe and reliable working environment in compliance with UN-WFP electrical standards.
  • Generator Service: Regularly service generators, including always refueling and ensuring readiness. Service other electrical systems and ensure compliance with health safety procedures.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Provide a full range of site maintenance and installation works, ensuring regular preventive maintenance (e.g., for generators, water heaters, water pumps, electrical lighting installation, etc.) to ensure well-functioning equipment.
  • Electrical System Check: Thoroughly check all electrical systems, which includes cleaning of all systems, tightening of all connections, checking/cleaning/greasing of all contactors, and Main Circuit Breakers (MCB’s).
  • Load Balancing: Check the electric current load between each electrical phase to ensure the electric load is equally shared in each phase to avoid accidents during the installation of various electrical equipment/devices (i.e., Heater, AC, UPS, etc.) where necessary.
  • Equipment Repair and Maintenance: able to repair or arrange to repair all kinds of electronic and electrical items and Maintain power equipment (AC, Fan, all lights, sockets, Electricity supply distribution board (DB box), etc.) and kitchen equipment/appliances (Refrigerator, Microwave, Oven, Mixer-Grinder, Electric kettle, etc.).
  • Routine Checkup: Conduct daily routine checkups of all the electrical systems & appliances and replace defective bulbs, tube lights, perimeter lights, fans, switches, sockets, plug points, short circuiting/Tripping lines, rewiring, managing tangled wires, load balancing, and any other job.
  • Technical Supervision: Provide technical supervision to external contractors, electrical (BECO) service provider or intervention for any major electrical upgrade installations, maintenance, or repairs.
  • Inventory Management: Assist in maintaining accurate inventory records through physical checks and maintenance of lists/databases, and arrange disposal of identified equipment and materials, strictly following WFP assets management guidelines.
  • Reporting: Compile and provide accurate reports on works undertaken, services provided, materials supplied and used for installations/repairs including accurate generator fuel logbooks.
  • Evaluation: Contribute technical evaluation of required electrical supplies for upgrade and maintenance works, to support efficient and cost-effective site maintenance services

Do you meet the minimum requirements?

Education:

  • Completion of secondary school Education with 6 years of relevant experience. OR First University degree/Certificate with 2 or more years of relevant experience in (technical/vocational school or certification in electrical engineering)

Experience:

  • 6 or more years of progressively responsible and proven effective experience in executing specialized electrical installations, maintenance/repair work, operated diesel generators and at least one year at G6 level or equivalent.
  • Experience in handling electrical systems and processes, including knowledge of safety protocols, emergency response procedures, and security measures within the electricity industry?

Language Proficiency:

  • Fluency in oral and written communication in English and Somali.

Are you competent for this job? Knowledge and skills desired:

  • Good knowledge of how to read and understand blueprints and technical diagrams.
  • Knowledge of safety precautions.
  • Ability to inspect and evaluate equipment/appliances and resolve malfunctioning quickly including ability to perform tests and use the results to diagnose problems.
  • Ability to carry out installation of the equipment/appliances expertly and sometimes under difficult and awkward physical circumstances.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools.
  • Ability to multi-task and respond simultaneously and in a timely fashion to job requirements.
  • Ability to maintain accurate and precise records.
  • High sense of responsibility and punctuality.
  • Honesty and integrity.
  • Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing and draft various correspondence.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment.
